Debug Update and Images - Solved

[Question solved, see end of the question] I'm trying the Quiz plugin ... with success - Respect to the programmer! But only the textmode is working well. If I select an image as question, it seems not to reach my device. So the application is crashing (local files, not url). May be this is an general update problem. I know, that I have to copy this content into the right directory in eclipse. But once the application is able to be started on my real Android device, I never needed Eclipse again. What will I have to do, if I want to (debug) update including (new) images?! I found nothing about it in the lessons and also not in the Forum. Thanks for your help ! :-) ------ So it works: Thanks GoNorthWest's tutorial we are able to add files and so. We learned this in the learning path too. But I included images as questions and inserted them into the images folder. But that was not right. Everything started to work, after I used the 'res > drawable' for my images. An update of the questions/answers and the addition of new questions is automatically done via Update splash-screen on my device. Only if I declare new images I have to include them in the drawable folder and export the app to the .apk again. The .apk then has to be started on the device again to update the program. The quiz crashes, if the image file is not found. I myself would prefer an 'Question not found' or so to find out the weak question ... Jens

Hi @Jet1199, Did you specify the path in your files?

I inserted the uploaded files via "select" in Buzztouch (in the screen of the image of the question). Jens

Hey @Jet1199, Even though you put the file in the control panel, make sure it's in your project after you download. For example, if it's an icon or pic, look in drawable folder, then look in your xml file and see if it's referenced..like @drawable/yourfile and all lowercase latters and I don't think you even need the type at the end..like..png in there..hope this helps.. It sounds like you are assuming the files in the File Manager of your control panel are automatically part of your project. They aren't. You'll need to download the files and include them, or reference them via a URL. Here's a short video that explains that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEFMUVfxreU Hope this helps! Mark

Hallo & thanks for the answers so far, but they are only half the way. Surely I have to include the files in Eclipse. From there I'll be able to create the .apk-file (first step: in debug mode. If I NOW update my application including a new image (thats everytime I would add/change a question-graphic in the used quizz-modul) ... I need to download the zip and extract it to the right folders in Eclipse? And then? Will I have to export the project everytime again? Or sees my device the change?! Jens

Hi Jens, If you don't specify the images via a URL, then yes, you will have to recompile the app and create a new apk each time you add questions. However, if you do it via URL, then you just need to refresh the app data using the menu on your device, and the new questions will appear! Mark

@Mark: Thanks for answering a beginner again :-)) :-( Hm. Offline would be more comfortable. I need more input ... like Number 5. If I debug, I could live with this creation of an new APK. I've never done, but that's the target of all: If I stop debug and upload it to Google Play: Will it get an update (and the users get it) or will it be everytime an new application, when I create a new APK? Otherwise (online) the app will run slower and creates more traffic ... not good for all ... Jens

Hallo, my problem is solved not yet :-( It I define all graphics via URL; everything works well. But yes: May be the customers prefer to use the App offline. And there is no way to download all online content in advance. - But I'm happy, that THIS works! To the offline jpg's: - I uploades the jpg's to the file manager - I created and downloaded the zip archive - I copied the jpg's from there in Eclipse's /assets/bt_images folder - I exported the app again to the store and replaced the old - I updated my app after getting the info, that there's an update ... - The app crashes. It crashes only, if I declare the pics to use offline. Please halt me again, I looked to the tutorial, I'm sure, I'v made it in the right way ... But somewhat is wrong. I don't know why and what. Thank you for helping again! Jens

Hi Jens, To offline images, they need to be in the res > drawable folder, unless they are part of an HTML doc, and then they need to go into assets > BT_Docs along with the HTML docs. Make sure that images follow the a-z0-9 naming convention, meaning no spaces or special characters. Remember that the File Manager is just a place holder for stuff you'll use in your app...when you download your source package, nothing in the File Manager will be included with it. Check out this video for a better explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEFMUVfxreU Hope this helps a bit. Let us know if it doesn't. Mark
