Wishlist possible w/Buzztouch?

Brand new here & need feedback. A friend owns a business that has multiple locations throughout the country. He wants an app that his students can: 1) Log their personal achievements (the number of times they perform xyz tasks) then 2) receive points for each achievement while having it stored/accumulated then 3)share it with the other app users throughout the country while seeing what others are also achieving. He got the idea from his Sports-tracker app (http://www.sports-tracker.com/)and likes the idea of all his students seeing what others are doing. Instead of gps tracking workouts (as in sportstracker), his students would simply type in their achievement. Its sort of a social network game that rewards actions. If this is possible, please advise best place to start. Is it a matter of creating the right plugins or is it beyond Buzztouch capability? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Hi @Mobilewheels, Welcome to buzztouch! To be honest, nothing is past buzztouch's capability. It might not be doable with just the current plugins available, but you can extend and add to the code as much as you want. So, if you have the skills/time/money, absolutely anything is possible! This idea seems like it should center around an online database, and users fill in info into a screen that then sends that data to the database. Another screen might query the database to show all users and their activities. Lots of ways to do this, and my personal direction would be to use a database (not one on the app, but on a web server). Others will for sure post their comments here to help. The best way to start is to clearly define the functionality that you wish the app to have, and try to arrange it via "screens" in the same manner an end user might use the app. Then you can work towards determining the actual technology that would go behind each screen. Mark

Thanks @GoNorthWest for the feedback! Very much appreciated. At first it sounded too complicated for a novice like me, but the more I think about it - the more your personal direction makes sense. I am now thinking about centering this idea around a social networking site by creating a social networking site via the ELGG open source platform first and then using Buzztouch to bring it to the mobile world. Any thoughts on this Mark or anyone else out there?

I haven't spent much time checking out ELGG, so I'm not quite sure what it's capable of. But it would be a good strategic choice, I think, to do what you're proposing. And it seems like an SDK exists to make that happen. Mark

Thanks Mark. I feel much better now that I feel like I know at least where North is. By the way, nice apps you have especially that fishing one :)
