Adding review/rating functionnality to an app.

Hi everyone, I am looking for a way to allow users to rate and leave a review on an app. This is for a shopping app for a particular street. Shops register to the app and customers can review and rate the service and goods. I thought by doing it via the email plugin but it means an enormous amount of work collating the info manually. Is there a way to automate this process? Ideally the user would rate/review a shop and voila! it appears on the app (assuming that they are online)! I am guessing I need some kind of database but I not too sure of how to start. Any pointers please? Thanks, Farcat

Hi @farcat, I may be way off here but can't you just customize the email plugin with prefilled fields and direct them to another e-mail and generate the reviews? LA

Hi @LA, Thanks for your quick reply. Emails was my first line of thoughts, I can customise the plugin with prefilled fields but I am not sure what you mean next by "direct them to another e-mail and generate the reviews". Is there a way to display automatically these reviews received by emails on the app without me doing anything? Thanks, Farcat

Hey @farcat, Unless you have a huge client based, I was thinking of directing them to another e-mail address just setup for this only and have the subject with a points system for easy reviews. Just a thought. LA

Thanks @LA, I am planning for my app to be VERY successful! :) Joke aside, I am building the app for a client who doesn't want the hassle to update manually so I need to investigate ways to automate. Not easy...

No problem @farcat. I think you can finds ways to automate to update manually. You could force a refresh on your end so every time a client turns it on he/she has to update. I remember reading a post about this. LA

Force refresh sounds good, that would take care of the automatic update. But I struggle to get started with the basics of my concept. What do you think I should set up to receive the reviews and feedback to the app? I am not sure if I explain myself properly. In my head I picture that I need some sort of database hosted somewhere to receive the rating (and review), calculate the average rating and somehow feed that all back to the app. It is way out of my comfort zone but I am up for a challenge. Am I on the right track? Do I need to start learning MySQL or the like?

Hey @farcat, You can use mysql, but it uses php, so you would need something to communicate from your database to buzztouch. Not sure here but maybe jQuery. LA

Hi @LA, Thanks for the leads. I will start researching this now. Anyone out there who uses database connected with a buzztouch app? Farcat
