WordPress JSON API plugin

After a long break from BT (letting my developer account expire and working on a bunch of WP sites), I decided to come back and check out all the improvements. Wow. David & Team, fantastic. I have been looking at the Wordpress JSON API plugin that is somewhat newer. Just started playing with an idea for an app for one of mysites. I was curious if anyone would be interested in calling to their WP database and having a searchable interface to access that info. Does a plugin like this interest anyone?

@Paddy, Trying to figure out how to do this for my app, then will try and integrate it into a plugin. What sort of info would you need to call to? My app will need to, based on the device location, call to the database and return business listings relative to that local and a possible refinement selection.

Hi erichopf, Good to have you back here and great to hear your idea. I'm working on something similar for a while now (also on Joomla plugin) and probably will take some time to finish it up. Our approach could be different so I love to see what you will come up with. Maybe there is room in the market for 2 plugins. Glad somebody tries to create also a wordpress plugin. Good luck and happy coding. Best Regards, Danny

@erichopf, Same as you, I was thinking of queries directly the db for geolocalisation, event management, upcoming events, etc. Front/backend would be WP, then we call the infos from the app "without" having to go though a WP site. Cool. I'll have a look at a WP database table. With the plugin "choose a db table" as criteria for search. Fabulous idea, I was thinkig about this a while ago, but not sure how to go about it. @Danny, a lot of customers have Joomla sites too. There has to be room for 2 plugins. I'd buy the 2 straight away.

Hi @Paddy, The wp plugin would handle the database side like the php does and would be the "middle guy" connecting buzztouch to the php? LA

Yep, that's what I was thinking. Thus avoiding having to write our own php without all the security problems for peeps that don't know how to secure their php.

@LA, Hmmm, I have a doubt that you understood I was going to make the plugin. I'm not that good yet (if ever). Sorry if I gave that impression. I was brainstorming for erichopf and Danny.

@erichopf -- a plugin that brings in the Custom Post Types data in JSON format would be a killer plugin! Can you imagine the possibilities with such a plugin!? After I watch the Tuesday Webinar on "JSON with BuzzTouch", then I shall think more about the practicalities of such a plugin. Shall we brainstorm for a bit? Private message me!

@nickrick32 Sorry, I've been working on 4 websites and haven't had time to devote to this project yet. Sorry. *Edit* I was just doing some research and the WP JSON API doesn't seem to handle custom post types yet, so until that is worked out, trying to make a plugin would not be very useful.

If you watch this entire One hour, 17 minute video, you will have learned how to get WordPress to output JSON for your Custom Post Types for consumption by mobiles. http://vimeo.com/48773789 I've tried to contact the teacher, Nick Ray, but have not been successful. I wanted to learn from his source code. Alas, I may have to re-watch the video and take frameshots of his code. I too am waiting for the Jetpack plugin to be savvy about JSON for Custom Post Types. They know about it, but have not publicly said anything about an expected timeframe. -- Niraj
