Hey guys, I have this idea of an app that would need a new functionality: a message appearing when the user goes near a pre-defined spot (this is to alert customers about deals when walking past a shop). I remember reading a post about something similar but cannot find it. Is it possible with Buzztouch? If not can anybody give any pointers please? Thanks, Farcat

Thanks @mysps, no that's not it. The posts I refer to was specifically about receiving alerts when walking past a spot on a map. I thought at the time it was interesting but I didn't follow it. It was a query but I don't even know if the guy found his solution in the end. The content of the message as well as the location on the map would need to change regularly therefore the changes need to be done through the hosted control panel. Do you guys things there is a plugin out there for this, seems a bit of a stretch for the plugins I know.

sounds like NFC - Near Field Communications? http://www.nfc-forum.org/aboutnfc/ I think folks were hoping this was going to be on the iphone 5. far as i know NFC is Android only. otherwsie check out AT&T Developer site. They have these device locatiuon apps that use coupons/loyalty based on location. I tried to apply for a developer API with AT&T and it was insalnely expensive. But there were some videos on their site that showed their API on mobile apps in action doing exactly what you described.....

@ATRAIN53 NFC has to do with actually processing payments. In fact the iPhone's and some/most android phones don't even have this functionality. What your taking about is current location. You'll need a developer to program it in, but there's are a set of tools that apple provides to check the users current location even when the user doesn't have the app open. Kinda complicated stuff, will need some custom coding.

Hey Guys. I am working on this very same thing. It's more like Geo location. Just to give you a heads up the sdk I am using is from http://www.geoloqi.com They have the whole service ready for devs to just dive in. You create the POI's on a map and set the message and radius are your done. When the user drives or walks pass, a push notification pops up the deal or what ever message you want to display. I must say the integration is clunky and not for the faint at heart, but worth a try. I see a lot of money being made in this arena soon. I will post my app when it's completed, it's about 80% done. I am doing this in the Southern Pennsylvania and New York City market with some local shops.

Xtify has this type of thing as well. Look up MMA Webinar: Xtify on YouTube. This video is pretty in depth and a little salesy but really lets us know what Xtify can do. I plan on implementing soon.
