Guitar teacher hoping to build an app

Hey, I just found this site today and I must say I'm impressed. I am hoping to learn how to build apps so I can make my own guitar instructional app. Quick question: does the app builder on this site support MIDI files?

Hey @shredtraining, Welcome to buzztouch! Very much looking forward to seeing what you come up with for teaching guitar. There must be a tons of ways you could approach that. I don't believe that buzztouch supports MIDI files, but I think that's because neither iOS nor Android support MIDI either. You'd need to convert those to supported file formats. Once you get that taken care of, though, the sky's the limit! Don't hesitate to post if you run into problems or just want to talk about ideas. Mark

Welcome to the site!! Yep you could easily set up a guitar instructional app full of videos and sound bytes! However, midi files arent possible. MP3 and MP4 files. There was a user here using buzztouch for his jazz instructional app. here is one of his apps. https://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/myjazz-3/id488771283?mt=8 good luck with the app building!!

Thanks guys! I would like to build a play along guitar app: pages of music notation with audio and tempo changes. It's going to be a nightmare figuring all of this out!

Not a nightmare with this forum behind you! It should be fun trying to figure out how to make it happen. With enough perseverance, it will! Mark

Yeah, I just had a look at that jazz piano application, that is exactly what I am going for, but with guitar. I have the instructional material written, what are the next steps I should take?

Maybe PM @ianjamespiano and see if he has advice? Since you'd not be competing with you, he might be willing to help out?

Welcome! check some of these apps out: http://www.guitarjamz.com/app/all_apps/ I had a chance to meet Marty (he did not make these, they pay a developer to make them) a couple of years ago and he is to guitar lessons as David is to teaching app building. maybe some of his apps might inspire you. i'd call them 'decent' because there is **lots** of downloading with them. Favorite Guitar Player?

I didn't know Marty had apps too, they look great. Currently I sell instructional books and play along downloads from my website. However, I believe the future is in apps which is why I am here. Fav guitar player, Allan Holdsworth :)

I'm sure he does, he's very into marketing and using youtube to make a living selling guitar instruction DVD's. Super cool dude. He wanted to be a grade school music teacher but could not get a gig at a school and went this route instead and making a good living. If you're ever in San Diego, send him an email. He'll respond, esp if you're a customer :) I bought him a drink and chatted at a bar for a while. Holdsworth wow. Now that's taste. For me it all starts and ends with Garcia/Dylan, but I love all the UK guitar gods. Peter Green, Townshend and of course Keith Richards... and there's a guy here from Sheffield who is buddies with some of Joe Strummers old mates! he's got some great guitar taste too like st726 and that awesome Hendrix shrine.
