I'm using this method to build a custm tab bar in a non BT app. http://felipecypriano.com/2012/02/27/how-to-customize-uitabbar-on-ios-5/ I have a hunch that code could probably be imported into the BT tab bar controller code. I don't see how you can accomplish that styling you want without modifying some of the source code. MGoBlue did drop a nice tutorial on here about customizing the tab bar with images that you might find useful as well. That will give you some idea of what code has to be modifed in a BT project for custom tabs. Comments Menu looks great.
