iOS Social Media

Hello everyone! I am so happy to have found buzztouch. I'm looking to make a social media app. Where should I go to begin doing so? I looked at the JSOL plugin, and was wondering if that was where I should start. If not, could someone please point me in the right direction! Thank you!

Hi and welcome to BT! You've found the best place to make apps, full ownership, fast responsive community with crazy coding ninjas behind the scenes. When you say you are making a social media app what exactly are you referring to? You building a new Facebook? Just looking for social sharing within the app? You have many options but a wee bit more info will help us point you in the right direction. Once again, welcome to BT!

It's kind of like Facebook. It's more event based. The user will be able to create events that his friends on the app can use. I'd like to be able to invite friends from facebook to use the app, but that's something that will be considered later. I'd also like the events to show up on a map once a user creates the event with a certain logo depending on the type of event (I have these logos in an adobe illustrator file). Then other users will be able to state whether or not they are going to the event, and how many people that you know are going to the event and total people going to event. That's the main operation of the app, but there's also the obvious features that are needed. Ex: User login, adding friends, and things like that. Is this something that BT will be able to do? If not, do you know of anything that will be helpful? Thanks for your quick response!

However, if we could get a social share featuring app sharing that allows a check in feature. Kind of like Four Square, but with more details on the event.

That's OK, we've all done the double post at some stage! OK, big questions for a big app so let's start at the top. Buzztouch provides an extremely advanced and complex set of tools to get your feet wet in the app market, there really is nothing like it but you are going to have to do some work, more so since you have a grand plan that actually involves doing something and not just displaying static content. Don't worry, you can. You can make anything you want with BT, tons of tutorials, loads of tools and plugins on here and other sites than you can implement and code snippets you can use. There are tools like the Scringo SDK - http://www.scringo.com - and Socialize - www.getsocialize.com/ - that will allow your users to interact, invite friends and connect via Facebook, Twitter and so on. I love the map and chat feature on Scringo. In terms of adding events you'll have to do some forms and backend DB work, BT allows you to password protect pages and the likes but you are going to have to put in some hours to pull all of this together. Again, no need to re-invent the wheel though, sites like JotForm - http://www.jotform.com - can take some of the pain out of building sign up, feedback forms and so on. Two apps that I really like on here that show some of the work that can be produced with some time and dedication are: 1. https://itunes.apple.com/app/ugadajka/id530550399?mt=8 2. https://itunes.apple.com/pk/app/atra-materia-mobile/id495471019?mt=8 These are both shining examples of BT and good dev work, I reckon so anyway. Can you code? If so you are on your way. If not, you are still in luck, chances are most of the things you want to do have been done by some user or another on here, if not, many are willing to help if you show some initiative and have some neat ideas. Can I do it for you, not likely but you can! Have a look around the forums, follow some users, play with Xcode and Eclipse and get up and running. Before you know it you'll have an app on your phone and be tweaking code. What you have outlined is a large project but more than feasible. Hope some of this helps. Dive in, play around, get your hands dirty. A ton of folk on here making apps for buddies and just as many making a decent living on the back of the BT platform. Have a good one mate and start making your app, hope some of this makes sense or helps. Cheers, Keith

Thank you for your extensive reply. What if I were to implement a check in feature similar to four square and also a rating of the check ins? How would I go about doing such? Thank you

I understand this wholeheartedly. Where should I start with this application then?

Fire up Xcode or eclipse, build a simple app in your control panel with tabs or a homepage and start adding to it. 10's of 1000's of apps have been pushed from BT, every single one started the same way.

Great advice, @MacApple. After the basic setup, I would look at Scringo next.
