BTUGwiki Going Away!

Hello, Today the domain name for btugwiki.com expires, so I think it's time to let this project go. It hasn't turned out as successfully as I'd hoped, partly because I think the wikimedia tools are too hard to use, but mostly because I lack the time to administer the site effectively. We're received far, far more spam on the site than actual helpful information related to buzztouch. I may revive this idea sometime down the road, but, for now, I'd prefer to spend my time creating videos or PDFs to help out my fellow buzztouchers! The domain should be available shortly if somebody wants to pick it up! Thanks to everybody who helped make a go of it! It was a good experiment. Mark

Sorry to see it go. There's a place for btugwiki, but maybe not on that platform. The spam was horrendous. You should keep the domain for a later date though, it's only a few bucks!

True...I might just do that! And I agree there's a place for the idea, but I'm not liking the wiki format at all...never really have. We use one at work, and they are very cumbersome. We'll see what happens! Mark

BTUGwiki, BTUGtricki, or BTUGpicky, don't care what it's called but for sure bummed to see it go. Totally get it though, keeping up with spam is a full time job. I speak from experience :-) It's far more important to ALL OF US that we have you around, hopefully you won't "expire" like the domain. After all, none of us are sure how you do it and we can only say that we appreciate your efforts immensely and so do tons and TONS of others. RIP BTUGwiki d.

Totally agree with David. Sad to see it go, but you are so much more important. You contribute so much to Buzztouch that it's almost unbelievable!

OK, changed my mind based on feedback! I renewed the domain name, so it'll take a bit for the DNS servers to get back in sync. All account creation is currently disabled for the wiki, which means nobody can post to the site, but I'll think about working on it over the holidays. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the comments! Mark

Good decision, Mark! We have to cut away when something doesn't work and try something else. I've been finding the resources I need on the how to page or in a google search. In fact, I've used two of your guides in the past week!

I was going to suggest wiki in the wish list forum category but found this thread so figure I'd post here instead. It appears that a wiki didn't work out due to spam, but I still think it's a good idea as a way to centralize all the various how-to's and other docs/videos etc. One way to combat the spam would be to only allow paid members to edit the wiki. That may reduce the spam significantly and still allow more of us to help contribute to the knowledge. Otherwise I'm ok with using Google until better search features are added to the site and forums.
