iPad mini is here

Apple just announced the iPad mini ... so, what does this mean for BT apps? Will we have a 'mid-size' splash screen option? ;)

I guess the resolution is the same, so maybe that's my answer.

I have listened to the whole event, and the thing is that the ipad mini has the same resolution as the ipad. What does that mean? It means that developers don't have to change anything to get their ipad apps to run properly on the ipad mini. -Jack

I assume its all about money? :) iPad mini is 7.9 while iPad 9.7? So iPad mini is closer to 8" than iPad to 10"... I guess 1.8" inches with a different name will make them millions. Luckily nothing changes from the DEV point of view. Same device, same res, just different name and a tad smaller.

yeah - i won't be running out to buy one. but if I didn't already have an iPad, that price point would probably sell me. I bet they sell a lot to that kind of market.

I agree US$329 is an affordable price tag for those who don't have an iPad.

I like the idea. I like it better than the 16:9-ish 7" tablets for sure. I'll probably wait until I can get one on craigslist for about 250-ish (lots of people in my area buy the newest toys, then can't make their rent).

I saw the whole keynote, and the iPad mini has exactly the same pixels as the iPad large. This means that the same dimensions are used, and in the video, they said that iPad apps would be sized down to the iPad mini screen. I would say that the iPad mini is actually quite good for using for development. I might think of getting one actually. I still won't get the 4-inch display though. It will stay the same dimensions, but it will be downsized from the iPad screen, which won't affect the quality in any way.

Apple aren't stupid. Take over the cheaper tablet market and don't confuse the developers. #success

I just finished watching - I actually thought the screen resolution had changed - so instead they took away the borders? I can live with this. Almost had a heart attack - LOL. Let's see how this plays out? David https://buzztouchmods.com

I wasn't real happy about the iPad 4th Gen being announced/released so soon. Weird how they showed the full lineup of pricing for the iPad family - listing the iPad 2, iPad 4, and iPad mini. Where's the 3rd gen?? Especially after bragging that it was their best selling iPad to date. Limited run, I suppose.

Didnt notice that, good point. 3 (new iPad) to 4 isn't an upgrade, 2 to 4 is. New chip in iPad mini is worth a refresh on big boy iPad. Apple do what they do, thought iTunes update would be big news, turns out no. Love iTunes but seems due a BIG update. Oh we'll, can't please us all.

The difference between the iPad 3 to 4 is simply to port. The lightning connector. And that's annoying. I can name 20 iPhone/iPad accessories that have 30 pin. My lovely stereo kit for example. But we'll all have to get lightning devices sometime. I hope they don't just let it out for 10 years then change it again. But I will say one thing straight off. Change is good. Change brings opportunities. I know that the iPad mini won't need to have any input on our part, but it's Apple's cheapest product, at a cheap price. It will bring more downloads for us. It's good. We don't do any work, but Apple brings us more customers. That, to me, is a good deal. @MacApple- iTunes 11 is coming sometime in the next week and I'm quite excited about the new layout.

Thanks for pointing that out guys. I honestly thought it was an error on the Canadian Apple store (iPad 2 & iPad 4...no iPad 3). Yikes not cool in regards to dumping iPad 3 that fast. Few mods and fast capitalization is the key I guess. Gotta support the high stock somehow :)
