New iphone4s, no mac to program on......dooh

Hello, I started out looking for an app that would flash the camera LED at a set rate. I want to be able to change the rate. I want to use this app to check the RPM of any motor or engine by shining the LED at the spinning object. I just need to be able to set and change the flash rate so the RPM can be determined. I am basically looking to be able to check the RPM's of a model helicoper's spinning rotor. I also thought about using the camera to do something similiar by using the camera's flicker rate and adjusting that. That way you wouldn't have to be too close to the blades. I started working through the BTU classes and when it got to "things you will need" I discovered I need a MAC. I do not even know of anyone who has a MAC I could borrow to build the app. Local library has PC's. So, if there is anyone who would like to play with this, that would be great, otherwise, I'm kinda stuck. Thanks, Martin

Hi @LocoMartin, Welcome to buzztouch! Would this app work for what you're trying to do? https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rpm-strobo/id388367362?mt=8 Seems like a pretty good idea for an app! Mark

Hi Mark, That one was brought to my attention prior to finding buzztouch. And the comments about the light being too low was why I wanted to use the flicker of the camera instead of the flash, but also have the flash option if you can use it. I was just really tickled to find buzztouch, but then kinda bummed about not being able to make iphone apps on a pc. And what's really strange is that you can make either one on a mac. Thanks, Martin

Yeah, it is kinda weird that Android dev can happen on both a Mac and PC...but that's thanks to the open source nature of Eclipse. Apple loves to have 100% control over everything...that's how they roll. Don't be tempted by people who say you can run Mac OS X in a virtual machine on a PC. You technically can, but it's a violation of the Apple TOS for Xcode. Mark
