Timer Plugin Updates & Unfortunate Mac Logic Board/Hard drive Failure..

Hi All... I've had lots of unfortunate events to occur during the past two weeks but of course lets start with the positive! My trip back to Europe/Spain was excellent with the family and their vacation was the most memorable ever! During my travel back to Europe my Macbook Pro functioned like always during my layover in Toronto, however, when I arrived in Spain it would not load. It was stuck loading the Mac logo and a few days later it wouldnt accept a charge. Of course all of this was happening during my family's visit so I didnt have much time to get it repaired. long story short.. i'm still waiting on a diagnostics report from Apple.. Hopefully they will report something positive like the hard drive was saved. On a good note I did backup the hard drive in August.. However, I created the plugin Timer back in September so right now I don't really have access to update it. I was told that I could download the files to make the changes, however im not able to test it. A few users have made requests and I do plan on adding those once I get my MBP back. These features will be added: Ability to edit the timer Modify the timer past 60minutes Fix errors that some were having on Android. thanks @Sandeep for posting the corrections in this forum https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=94830327AF4997B84682E7F&fid=06DB0BCB08E3333&sortColumn=FT.id&sortUpDown=DESC&currentPage=1 While I can't give a timetable of when it will be updated, I can assure you it will be, even if I have to ask the Gods of Buzztouch! This of course can happen to anyone so make sure you keep your computers backed up! Especially your servers.. BECAUSE.. I lost my server where my BT Self Hosted was and well.. I didnt have it backed up.. Fortunately, I did have all but two apps with the configuration embedded inside of the app. Those two were free apps and were Android based.. Make sure if you are on self-hosted not to wait to install the Buzztouch Backups plugin: https://www.buzztouchmods.com/downloads.php?cat_id=2&download_id=35 Sorry this was a long winded post!! While I've been away its nice to see these webinars and new plugins..Very very nice!! Buzztouch is AWESOME!!

I guess when something goes everything else follows. That seems to always happen. Was the MacBook under warranty at least? Good luck and hope everything turns out well.

Feel that pain! Lost a lot of stuff recently, which encouraged me to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm on win xp so this probably won't be much help, but I assume there'll be something similar for apple???? http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Todo-Backup-Free/3000-2242_4-10964460.html It makes incremental nightly backups of my hard-drive to an external hard drive, ie it backups up every change I've made since the last backup. It's great for peace of mind! If you have your bt server on an account such as hostgator, as long as you don't go over the inode limit, they back up everything (scripts, db's etc) on your domain automatically. @Jangodarkblade - comments like that won't get you very far.

@mysps to me it sounds like a hard drive. Did you try booting from an external drive prior to sending it in? Well I do wish you luck, its bound to turn around. Bad things happen in 3's last time I looked. ;) @raveyd Great tips. Lately I'm very paranoid about loosing stuff, I'm changing hard drive annually. lol. Also got a NAS server setup with a RAID setup with evening backups (from laptop/desktop to NAS). Nothing is perfect, one bad storm and I'm out as well, but at least I can say that I tried. haha.

Hi @Coderx, that was my problem. The hard drive partitions got scrambled. Unrepairable without losing data in xp (with the tools I've got) but was able to transfer data over to a linux os and salvage it from there. Now I've also got an anti surge plug stack + a laptop hard drive in an external caddy, ready and waiting to accept the backups from the external drive, so at least if my pc goes kaput I can carry on on a laptop with only about 2 hours downtime... Paranoid too!

Once I get a piece of code or project or something working - i still archive to a DVD on top of backing it up to a portable HD. DVD never overwritten and quick to re-load data back on a new system. Parted Magic - a great utility I use to clone entire drives as well. try to think of back-ups like this: save your DATA. Don't worry about programs and OS's. You can always install that stuff again. But your data is not installable. Spend the time backing up your data, not your OS.

This is one of the reasons why all my Buzztouch info (development, apps, tutorials, etc) are run from DropBox. Not only can I switch from one computer to the other without problems, but it's constantly backed up! The only other stuff really important to me on my computer is my digital pics, and I back those up regularly! Hope the news is good about the Mac! Mark

That totally sucks! I am sure that was a memorable experience for sure! Well, fortunate or unfortunate you are ok and data can be retrieved in so many ways. Been there a couple of times ...cloud computing has it perks no matter what service. Hope you get back up and running...and really sucky part is you were almost there for the plug in! Thanks for letting us know....I know you will create something great we all can use! Sheri
