Making a magazine/app

Hi, I would like to make an app for a monthly free magazine, not to sure how to tackle it. Have any of you tried something like that? The app will be just like the magazine, reading a page, flip and read the next page, etc. My questions are: 1 - What is the best plugin in for this? I am thinking Pdf reader or HTML5 2 - What is Apple policy on this, does it need to go in the Newstand or can it be just an app? 3- Updating. The idea is for me to update the app monthly without having to resubmit every month to Apple. How can I push new content so people can refresh the app while on line and read it at their leisure online? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Farcat

Hi Farcat, A magazine app was the second app I ever published for my free sheet in Cardiff, UK. It's called The Penny Post and it's free if you want to take a look. My app is not Newstand (as I'm terrified of the tech behind this!) so I took mostly the content of my associated website and displayed each category as an RSS feed. Then I uploaded the back issues of this as a PDF. The problem here is that you'd need to update the app every time a new issue was included. Much easier to use a nice HTML5 page-turning code that sits online (no need to update!). Another thing that you must do if you want to avoid the Newsstand route is to include some native function from the phone (I went for a text us button) otherwise Apple won't approve it (however, Android won't care!). Let me know how you get on and good luck!

Hello Stephen, Sorry. Clicked on the link in your profile and it took me to the featured page in the App Store. Tried a couple of searches and nothing displayed. So I thought I would post the question. I know how fast I would respond after my blood pressure returned to normal. Thank you for the link. I downloaded your Penny Post App. Nice job. Mike

Cheers Mike. The Penny Post was always a side project for me. The love that my community has for it is nice though. This thread has made me think I should put some more effort into it now!

Thanks @JimmySaver, will look at the your app in detail. I was trying to go around the updating "the app every time a new issue was included" but it looks like it is not possible. Thanks for the advice, Farcat

Hi Farcat, There is definitely a way around it but it would have to be a Newsstand app. If you decide to go down this route, please write us all tutorial!
