Basic needs to get IOS apporval?

Hi All, Was wondering after looking at a couple of apps out there on the App Store. What is the basic things an app needs to have, to get it approved? I have a couple of apps in development, mostly local ones for schools, local businesses, sports clubs etc, but am concerned about them not getting approved because they don't have enough IOS functionality. As I have read on the forum Apple like the app to use the IOS functions and not just be another platform like the web. Do things like the contact card, map, blog, RSS, call, sms and mail screens add any value to this? Trying to make a simple app but good enough for Apple..... Any ideas?

I had an app with a map, phone numbers to services and a bunch of url's and it got approved first try. My other one contained all offline pdf documents and it got rejected so I added a phone number to a related service and a facebook page link to a related service and some url's to services. This one is waiting for review now but I'm pretty confident about it. Ryan

There is some luck involved. Maps and quizzes help. Links to external websites do not, especially if the websites aren't optimized for mobile.

In a nutshell, Apple likes well designed, elegant apps that utilize as much iOS functionality as possible, and give people a reason to use the app over and over and over again. Meet those criteria...do something a website can't do...and you're gold! Mark

I have three apps in the app store, and I haven't coded a single line! Everything is buzztouch plugins. Check out my developer profile if you want to see more. Others like @MGoBlue, @MacApple, @stobe, @SusanMetoxen, @Sherri and a ton of others all have apps in the store as well. Some are straight up buzztouch, some use some modified code that has been documented in super easy to follow tutorials (so you still don't need to learn a lick of code!). In short...there are literally thousands of buzztouch apps in the market. So you're in good company! Mark

I have found that any time you can include any kind of video it helps. Apple loves screens that show off all of the great built in features of their devices. I have 6 apps in the App store and the only coding I have done is to integrate Push Notification.

@bfoutty, did you use a video plugin or custom HTML to embed youtube? Would love hear more about push notifications !!
