Problem with AT_53 video plugin using Xcode 3.2.6 on Snow Leopard

Dear Buzztouch friends, After downloading AT_53 Video player the other day I'm having some problems. I don't want to waste any of my colleagues precious time so if the subject line says it all and I just need to update my XCode and OS I apologise - it's happening next week anyway when my new machine. If you don't think that's the problem - this is what is happening: I'm getting the following whenever I go to build my app in XCode - I've got all the plugins copied into my project and the Media Player framework is in there too - this is the full message when viewed in the Build Log config window: //log starts here Build idig1 of project idig1 with configuration Debug CompileXIB BT_Plugins/at53_video_player/At53_video_player.xib cd "/Users/cs1gfm/gmXcode/BT_Downloads and folders/idig1_v20_iOS" setenv IBC_MINIMUM_COMPATIBILITY_VERSION 3.0 setenv PATH "/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin:/Developer/usr/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin" /Developer/usr/bin/ibtool --errors --warnings --notices --output-format human-readable-text --compile "/Users/cs1gfm/gmXcode/BT_Downloads and folders/idig1_v20_iOS/build/Debug-iphonesimulator/idig1.app/At53_video_player.nib" "/Users/cs1gfm/gmXcode/BT_Downloads and folders/idig1_v20_iOS/BT_Plugins/at53_video_player/At53_video_player.xib" --sdk /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator4.3.sdk 2012-10-11 18:56:32.479 ibtool[301:607] -[IBUIScreenMetrics initWithCoder:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1006da220 2012-10-11 18:56:32.556 ibtool[301:607] Exception raised while decoding document objects - -[IBUIScreenMetrics initWithCoder:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1006da220 /* com.apple.ibtool.errors */ /Users/cs1gfm/gmXcode/BT_Downloads and folders/idig1_v20_iOS/BT_Plugins/at53_video_player/At53_video_player.xib: error: The document "At53_video_player.xib" could not be opened. Thanks for purchasing :) That is definately an XCode 3 issue with the .xib file- look at this line: "At53_video_player.xib: error: The document "At53_video_player.xib" could not be opened. The operation couldn’t be completed. -[IBUIScreenMetrics initWithCoder:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1006da220. " Xcode 3 uses and compiles .nib files, not .xib files So XCode 3 is telling you with that error it has no clue what to do with that .xib file. I don't think it will work, but you *could* try renaming them .nib instead of .xib and see what happens?

Hi there Atrain and thanks so much for getting back in touch so promptly. Sorry I'm still such a newbie I didn't know that - no worries tough - there's actually a brand new iMac sat in the room with me right now, which as soon as I get time to set up and clone of the current one, will get new XCode on and hopefully we'll be in business!. Hold on - I'm just going to give that workaround a go now anyway and see what happens..... ... (some minutes later)... Well we have a big green tick and it loading on the simulator - not playing the video though but it is just on the Simulator at the moment. Really looking forward to giving this more of a go next week - I'm waiting for someone ay work to sort our Dev Account out with Apple as well so I can get my provisioning profile sorted. Just so you know - I'm building some video based apps to train our archaeology students here at The University of Sheffield - they used to run them on HP win mobile PDAs but the whole market for them collapsed a few years ago so we want to make them as Apps that the students can run natively on their own devices. Thanks once again for your time - really appreciate it all the best Graham

Wow, super cool to hear this is being put to use for archeology students. I am also a huge Joe Strummer freak so the fact that Sheffield ENG is the site of the Clash's first historic '76 performace is not lost here. I miss Joe a ton :( Being able to play videos with no internet connection required is the main reason i made this. That allow you to pause/fwd and rew the video with no issues. Perfect for out in the field type app. the option to use a video from URL was a BT addition. Waiting and scanning thru an on-line video will act differently. don't forget your android crew as David has this plug-in working well on that platform now. start up some new threads when you get into the provisioning stuff. it's tricky but we'll get you thru it.

Hi again, I'm glad you like our proposed use of the plugin. I bet you're going to be even more excited when I tell you one of my best mates used to be Joe's bassist in the Mescaleros! Yeah real shame that.... Thanks in advance for the offer of help with the provisioning too - really appreciated. Have a great weekend - I'm finishing soon.... all the best Graham

WOW :O Stafford? Shields? or before them? I met Joe outside in the alley at one of the early gigs in '99. The guy could not have been nicer as he was helping with his own load-in and I'm trying to pester him for an autograph... Not being old enough to see the Clash in their heyday, I never missed an chance to see the legend. Actually went to NYC to see 5 St Annes residnecy shows. Got to hang with Joe there a bit too. Very accessible guy. I taped them if you'd like a copy...? Please to have made the connection. Tell your mate thanks and indeed the Future is Unwritten. RIP Joe, he's missed as much as Hendrix and Elvis in mybook. Post up if you run into issues provisioning. lots of helpful folks here that have been thru the process. Its a 2 step dance. Once for the developenent testing and then once again for deployment. Watching a video tutorial on the process is helpful, lots on youtube to seek out.

Hi again Stafford! He's an equally fantastic guy (although I never actually met JS on which to substantiate that claim). Thanks again too for the offer of help with everything - really appreciate it! speak soon G

Hi there Atrain, so I finally got my new mac sorted, although the one I'm doing this bit of development is a Lion machine, running Xcode Version 4.3.3 (4E3002). So I've recompiled and I'm now getting the following error when I go into the video player screen - it crashes the app on the simulator and throws this in the debug window..... 2012-11-01 13:35:44.471 idig1[7530:17303] BT_screen_menuListSimple: didSelectRowAtIndexPath: Selected Row: 1 2012-11-01 13:35:44.471 idig1[7530:17303] BT_application: getScreenDataByItemId 4E3A7BB2F55E7EEEC75F170 2012-11-01 13:35:44.472 idig1[7530:17303] BT_application: screenType is At53_video_player for screen with nickname: "Video" and itemId: 4E3A7BB2F55E7EEEC75F170 2012-11-01 13:35:44.472 idig1[7530:17303] BT_viewControllerManager: handleTapToLoadScreen 2012-11-01 13:35:44.472 idig1[7530:17303] BT_viewControllerManager: the parent screen nickname: "Home Screen Menu" itemId: B7FF399D560FEDF91EA78ED itemType: BT_screen_menuListSimple 2012-11-01 13:35:44.473 idig1[7530:17303] BT_viewControllerManager: the menu/button tapped is itemId: 3BD2BA4EAFB648A33C30801 2012-11-01 13:35:44.473 idig1[7530:17303] BT_viewControllerManager: the screen to load is nickname: "Video" itemId: 4E3A7BB2F55E7EEEC75F170 itemType: At53_video_player 2012-11-01 13:35:44.473 idig1[7530:17303] BT_viewControllerManager: initViewControllerForScreen nickname: "Video" itemId: 4E3A7BB2F55E7EEEC75F170 type: At53_video_player 2012-11-01 13:35:44.474 idig1[7530:17303] At53_video_player: INIT 2012-11-01 13:35:44.474 idig1[7530:17303] BT_rotatingNavController: pushViewController 2012-11-01 13:35:44.474 idig1[7530:17303] BT_rotatingNavController: pushViewController for screen: 4E3A7BB2F55E7EEEC75F170 2012-11-01 13:35:44.476 idig1[7530:17303] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSKeyedUnarchiver initForReadingWithData:]: incomprehensible archive (0x3c, 0x3f, 0x78, 0x6d, 0x6c, 0x20, 0x76, 0x65)' *** First throw call stack: (0x1a6b022 0x1fa1cd6 0x1a13a48 0x1a139b9 0x24b741 0x82ace4 0x82ae49 0x6d11fc 0x6d1779 0x6d199b 0x6d1d11 0x6e38fd 0x6e3aef 0x6e3dbb 0x6e485f 0x6e4e06 0x6e4a24 0xa980 0x10dac 0x7aca1 0x69b5c5 0x69b7fa 0x26585d 0x1a3f936 0x1a3f3d7 0x19a2790 0x19a1d84 0x19a1c9b 0x24f27d8 0x24f288a 0x60a626 0x48e06 0x26f5) terminate called throwing an exception(lldb) If you have any ideas what I might be doing wrong here that would be fab! Worked from home yesterday and had some Clash/Strummer rocking really loud. Nice to have the place to myself! David did a major update to the player code last week. Most of it was to deal with newer iOS6 and xocode issues. Have you re-downloaded the plug-in code recently? I would give that a shot first and see if it resolves the errors.

always rockin the Casbah, or as we like to joke the "Cash Bar". and just heard it was Rick Allen of Def Leppard 50th b-day today. another Sheffield lad and great band. remember: you don't need to re-build the entire project to use the new source code of a plug-in. download the whole project zip and then extract it to a temporary folder. then copy/replace JUST the .h and .m (and .xib's) of the at53 plugin folder to the existing project. (rename the old files first or xcode will complain) do a clean and build and you're set. A LOT easier than the whole project. yell if you get stuck.....

Hi again, well it was a while since I'd done it so I just deleted the entire download folder and started again. Player looks fine now but it's telling me that the video file is missing from the Xcode bundle At53_video_player: playMovie 2012-11-01 21:47:11.505 idig1[1069:17303] BT_fileManager: File does not exist in Xcode bundle: Photography.m4v I have however put the file in the BT_Video folfder in the project - is this not the right location? Everytime I tried to add it to the BT Filemanager it just seemed to bail out - but that could be my crappy connection at home... speak soon G

Hi again, ok just realise that this might just be logging in the console rater than an actual fault? I'm only running on the simulators at the moment and the vidoe file is about 40 Mb so maybe it just won't like that in the simulator perhaps? I realised too that I can't upload the video file using the File Manager as I'm not self hosetd and BT wont allow vid files to be uploaded there all the best Graham
