Recommended app-building process?

Hi I am probably in way over my head - but loving the learning process. I've made a few apps using an online generator but wanted to get deeper into app building because of the program's limitations - and because I'm a knowledge hound - can't stand not knowing how things work! :). I was looking for an coding course for newbies when I stumbled across this site (thank you Google). I have taken the 3 BTU courses (awesome!) and have installed the self-hosted program on my own server. No issues there. I click on the create app button and upload an icon. No problem there. But after that - I enter murky waters. After I uploaded the icon I clicked on the next link, "Layout / Tabs", but ... alas, I lose my way. Is there a recommended process that one follows as far as in steps to take and when? I want to attempt an app that will refresh daily with a new "story" and a tab to read the previous stories in the app - for ios and android, so I do have a "sort of" plan. Just not sure how to bring it to life. Thanks in advance for reading this post - and for any advice you can offer. I am really looking forward to becoming a coder!

Hi Linda, Welcome! After creating the icon try to create a menu (menu simple) and called it "home". If you only have one menu go to "layout/tabs" and select "non-Tabbed Layout". Point to your previously created menu (called home) and hit save. If you want to have more menus create them, give them a name and go to "layout/tabs". Now choose "tabbed layout" and connect each menu (you have created) to a tab. Additionally assign an icon to every tab. Click on "screens/actions" and hit 'Add New' enter a name like (in this example) 'Google'. For 'Choose a plugin type' choose 'Custom url' and hit save. Click on "screens/actions" again and you'll see your newly created screen (google). Click on it and in the url field fill-in 'http://www.google.nl' and hit save. Now it's time to create your menu items. Click on "screens/actions" again and choose the menu (like the menu 'home') where you want to add your items (link to google). Give a name for your row like "website to google" and link the "New or Existing Nickname" to the screen (google) you've just created. Once done save and you created your first menu item. Click on "Application home" and click on "download source code" to get your code for iOS or Android. Hope this gives you a start to continue to add more screens to your app. Best Regards, Danny PS this is not exactly what you are asking for but it's a beginning.

That was awesome. @Danny gave you a very solid set of instructions to work from! I'll sort of take it from where he left off: Once you download the source code, you can launch it in xcode/eclipse, and simply "refresh" the application as you keep working from the control panel, tweaking, making small changes, etc. You'll see the changes real time. As you can see, the forum is super helpful, keep taking advantage! For what you're looking to create (your app idea), I would definitely take a look at the RSS plugin/screen, and see if that might be of use. Best of luck, Cheers, David https://buzztouchmods.com

I think my question is appropriate to the title of this topic, so I will post here instead of starting a new thread. I am brand new at BT and barely got everything installed and running, fixing minor issues like compliance level 1.7 etc. I am working with Windows building an Android App. My question is work flow. So once you have imported initial BT source code in Eclipse, and then you make changes in BT, what is the recommended path to make the same changes in Eclipse? Download and replace the entire project? Open the new code and edit into appropriate places in existing code in Eclipse? Others? Thanks.

If i want to make some changes or put some custom code in the project i do it in the original project file itself instead of downloading the source again. This way it helps in getting organised and saves clutter of same files on pc. I think this is the best option.
