Interest survey - JSON Snippet Keeper Plugin Training

Hello all! With my new plugin being released, I wanted to offer some training to everyone here. There will be more than one session in the long run, but I wanted to do a test-run this weekend. I want to show off the plugin, and how I use it. And answer any questions from the participants. I'm proposing to conduct the training by Google Hangouts this Sunday evening, and wanted to check if there was interest. The times best available to me would be "later evening" EST (GMT -0500) Probably 10pm EST would be my choice, but if anyone needs that shifted a little bit, list your choice here and we'll see what works best. Let me know if anyone is interested. The Hangout can handle 9 participants plus myself. -Stobe

I'll make a separate post here with the official announcement. If we need to make several sessions, I'll do my best to meet everyone's schedules.

I made a iOS app in May that works to this day - even with the new iOS6. Except it nags me to change an image, which I cannot figure out why it isn't the correct image. Then in July I tried to make a second iOS App which failed. Tried dpwn loading the Android/Eclipse stuff for OSX, and I made a Android vers of the iOS app in BT, can't get Eclipse nor the source code to work. What's the point of snippets, if the the super structure doesn't work? I think BT needs to go back to the beginning... I didn't realize I would need to stop everything I was otherwise doing, and dedicate my entire world to just this. After all, isn't the point of a service to pull the pieces together?

Interested but nights are just impossible. Weekends in general are tough, esp during football season ;) Recorded episodes are always appreciated, great to watch on the train ride. Something I can use the new Nexus 7 i'm testing out for!

@nickbaer: probably not the place to vent. @ATRAIN: I'll definitely (attempt) to record the session.

@nickbaer: I agree with @Stobe, if you're frustrated, use the Grunts, Groans, and Complaints forum. I'll respond here because you've mentioned "What's the point of snippets, if the the super structure doesn't work?" A few ideas: 1) This plugin is advanced, and clearly says this in the description. It's not meant for app owners that don't understand some other bascis about how buzztouch apps are created. Interestingly, you're post here <a href="https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=9E276597E7FE4D02EAB536B" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=9E276597E7FE4D02EAB536B</a> is one of the main reasons for the tool, right? The "superstructure" works fine and tens of thousands of folks are successfully compiling apps. If you're not able too, OK, we get it. 2) "I think BT needs to go back to the beginning" To the beginning of what? If you're referring to offering software that helps you create an app like a buzztouch v1.4 app, we're not interested. Plenty of tools out there will help you make a cookie-cutter app that looks and behaves like "all the others made with the tool." It was great then, not now. But, you're welcome to create something like a 1.4 app with the existing tools. 1.4 apps are nothing more than a menu list with a bunch of screens connected to the one "home screen." It's our opinion that this type of basic app will likely get rejected for the App Store, regardless of whether or not it "works" as intended. Things change, expectations have gone up, older simple apps aren't good enough anymore. You've been "doing html since 1995 and PHP since 2005" (same post I referred to above) so I'm surprised that you think we should continue offering something that was created years ago that is no longer adequate. I'm guessing that you've created lots of things in the past that are no longer sufficient given today's climate. 3) "can't get Eclipse nor the source code to work" Eclipse is a tough animal, for sure. But, if you can't get it to work on your machine, and have to "dedicate my entire world to just this" I might suggest a different solution? You could hire somebody to compile source code for you, you could watch some of the Android Learning Path lessons in BTU, or you could simply "not do Android." Naturally the choices are up to you. Many of us take this very very seriously and in fact do "dedicate our world" to helping folks figure this out. In 99% of cases we do this for free, without expectation. However, ultimately it's up to you to decide what approach is best...it may be time to consider a different approach? @Stobe: Cool plugin, I can already think of a hundred ways to use it and save some serious time.

As you know, I started a thread on this topic 2 1/2 months ago... https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=403A747E5478525CDCEAACD&sortColumn=FT.id&sortUpDown=DESC&currentPage=1 I started it after reading others' similar concerns, in other threads. I see new courses have been added. Last spring when I completed all the courses that were available, 5/5, the chatter then was there might not be anymore, so I hadn't been logging in every day looking... My point - you might be moving forward so fast, that you are overlooking, or skipping over, some things that have changed with all the iOS/OSX updates. I was hoping you'd say something like: let's move this to another thread and talk it through. I'll give your points 2) and 3) negatives.

I don't understand the plugin so I am very interested in any training you offer on my latest purchase. I will support the plugin market in this startup phase because if this group of dedicated developers are not supported no one will be developing plugins. David said this is the future. Drink the cool aid. The Buzztouch Team has made it possible for people that can't spell code to compete with the big companies and ZZ have not asked us for anything. Sorry for the side track. I will follow the forum for details on training. Mike

Dear Stobe, I've just bought the plugin. Here in Brazil it will be about 3a.m., monday. So, please, make sure that the hangout session will be recorded. My first impression is that you've done some kind of magic that everyone was expecting here for a long, long time. Kind regards to all buzz touch family. Dry Frog.

Thanks everyone. I'll start a new thread with the details for the first training session. There will be more. If there's enough interest, I can be pretty flexible on Monday as well (daytime or night). See you all very soon!

1 hour to go. If you've never used Google+ Hangout before, give yourself a few extra minutes to download the client plugin from their site and get things setup. Getting setup as we speak.....

Dear Stobe I'm a lit bit lost about how to do that necessary change for self hosted versions on the .php file. (I'm buzztouchmods hosted). If you could clarify this it would be great! (it would be interesting if you could show this on the screen recording). Thanks a lot!

Here's the instructions from the plugin screen, and I will explain below: "Overwrite the BT-server/api/app/index.php file on your server with this file. Save this download with a .PHP extention and upload it to your server, overwriting the existing BT-server/api/app/index.php file." Since you don't really want to link a .php file to a webpage, David has stored it as a .txt file (the file you need to download). When you click on the link to download it, rename it to index.php instead of index.txt Then you need to use a FTP software (or the file manager in your hosting control panel (Cpanel in most cases), and overwrite the index.php file in the api/app/ directory of your BTServer installation with the file that you downloaded and renamed. I'll be happy to show how to do this in my next recording. And if you're hosting with buzztouchmods, MrDavid may be able to help you get the file copied over. Let me know if you have any more questions.

just finally finished up BC 11 on the commute in this AM. excellent episode. agreed it's a very advanced topic but how else can you explain it? Great job. You don't overdo it by adding extra confusing terms in. The real world examples are great. Super excited to have this tool at my disposal now. I think i was doing this in a small scale in a quasi similar way. game changer indeed. I was just thinking - I bet i have to mod my Self Hosted to accomidate this somehow to save the snippets. Was going to install it to my panel today. Probably would have learned that if i was able to catch the hangout! It *might* help newer folks to understand that this won't give you a screen on the CP once you use it to add/edit the JSON. you will be editing that JSON manually. so if you want to chnage a quiz question/answer. It will be interesting to see how folks use it and what kind of support this requires! Will check out the recording once you get time to post it.

Here's a screencast similar to the training we had the other night: http://idevdepot.com/?p=1090 To see a larger version, be sure to click on the "Watch on Youtube" button, so you can watch it full screen.
