Using PC or Ipad

Hello Everyone I am very new to this and need some assistance. I understand that Xcode is required to develop apps on this platform. The question I have is there a version of Xcode that works on my Ipad or PC because I dont own a MAC and if so where can I find it? Thanks for your assistance and please stay tuned Im sure I will have tons of other questions.

Hi @Vince1104, Welcome to buzztouch! Unfortunately, Xcode can only run on a Mac. Some people will tell you that you can install Mac OS X in VMware or something on a PC and run it that way, but it's a violation of the Xcode TOS, and I wouldn't recommend it. Here is a document that let's you know everything you need to get started with buzztouch: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.0.pdf Let us know if you have any other questions! No, xCode will only run on Intel based Macs. You can use a service like http://www.macincloud.com/ where you lease time on a mac to do your compiling.

Sorry, but it is true. You won't be able to develop iOS apps without an Intel based Mac. You could get a Mac Mini for half the price of an iMac, or have a look around sites like Gumtree and eBay. You could probably find a good value Mac Mini, MacBook or iMac there. However, you will be able to develop Android apps on any platform: Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. So don't rule app development out of your dreams just yet!

It is a pity I was not aware that I need ed a Mac until I got to Lesson four... I do not have one and so would not have wasted my time.... It should be on the home page in large writing.... MAC ONLY required for IOS apps... NO PC. Very disappointed.

You could run A virtual machine on your PC load OS X lion in the VM. it's not for the faint of heart it takes a little while to figure out. Are plenty of sites on the net that explain it. You would also need to make sure your PC is fairly new and has the correct processor that's all explain when you find the web sites out there. Of course Apple will frown upon doing this. Hell they might even sue you for a Billion or so..

I'd personally avoid using Xcode on anything but an Apple-branded product. I think Apple has a pretty good track record showing they go after people who don't follow their rules. Running Xcode on anything but Apple-branded is a violation of the Xcode TOS. @traxcorp - Sorry to hear that you think time spent learning something new was a waste of time. There are solutions, like finding a used Mac mini, that can help you out. But, there may be other requirements you're not aware of either...like the $99/yr required membership to the Apple Developer Program in order to publish your apps to iTunes? Here's a document that outlines what you need for both Android and iOS app development: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.0.pdf If you're serious about app development, there are just some things that come with the territory. Give the doc a read, decide if it's still something you're interested in getting into, and if so, post back here with any questions you may have! We'll be here for you! Mark

I enjoyed reading this forum especially the macinthecloud.com macthecloud.com isthereamacinthecloudwecanleaseanywebsiteanywhere.com I myself do not have a Mac however as the Android market is fast if not overtaken devices being switched on I am concentrating on building Android Apps. My reason for this is I feel as if the web is full to bursting point and any web site that I might put up will just be full of regurgitated info however the App market is still fresh and plenty of room for aspiring developers to step in and build some great apps... PS the last website I listed was of course nothing but garbage but I suspect the domain name is available :) JPRocks

I have heard that VM works, but i tried it repeatedly and got nowhere. Have to agree with @GoNorthWest, get access to a mac. In my case I have a buddy that fixes iPhones for a living that is allowing me to use a spare mac air of is....heck, he even built me a 3gs for testing purposes....it has no sim card for making phone calls, and has to be plugged into the computer to work, but hey...it set me up and I got the first app off to apple late last week. One important point about buzztouch and building apps for iPhone...@traxcorp made a comment about needing a mac. You don't need a mac to use Buzztouch, I did all my apps on my PC simply because i am more used to it than the mac. I then downloaded the zips and COMPLILED them in xcode on the mac. If you can borrow a friends mac, you can do it pretty easily. (although i suggest setting up your own profile just to keep things organized) Cheers all Al :-)
