Hi All, I was contacted about making a very similar app to what is out there already. Client wants to be able to take a picture or scan with his phone a business card and it will to his contacts or an organizer of some sort. Can this be done? Has anyone done something like this. Any feedback would be great.Thanks Anthony

I'm interested in the idea, but wonder, is that technology viable? Might get complicated if the phone has to "take a picture" of a card and decipher the fonts, then text, numbers, what they are for and then to place them into a category for a contact sheet. David, What if we took a picture of the business card and stored the entire card in a menu category like a rolodex.

Try downloading the samcard app from appstore. This is what i wanted to do but if it cant be done well go the other route.

I stand corrected, these guys made it possible! However, something like that is way beyond my skills. What we could try to do is your second method, make a plugin that takes a picture of the card, we can try to crop it for best results (removes background), and then store it somewhere in the app (local storage this time wouldn't be viable, we would need to figure something else out) Cheers, David http://buzztouchmods.com

Besides the fact it does what you are looking to do, it also offers an interface to other apps: within a couple of hours you can add to your app a button to scan a business cards, along with code to check if ScanBizCards is installed to prompt the user to install it otherwise.
