Attention Plug-in geniuses!

Hi guys. I'm part of a group with an interesting idea. As part of a University course in England, we were tasked with creating something to help people learning German to improve. We used a HORRIBLE piece of software with rubbish functionality, but still made quite a lot from it. We went into about 7 different schools and asked their language departments what they thought. A lot of them loved it. 5 schools have signed up to test any software we develop. Early on, we knew we wanted to do more, so we decided to make an app. I, as the relatively tech-savvie member of the group, decided to start to research this. TA-DAH! Buzztouch! So, now that I've been around it a bit, I still feel like we've not got quite the functionality we're after included by default. We're looking for a developer to pitch us some ideas and tantalise our tastebuds. We want to be able to record the user, play it back compared to a native speaker's accuracy, maybe even analyse it (potential for a premium service in which they send us their recordings and we analyse them personally and give tips and feedback). We want Gamecenter, we want to create a rolodex of vocab (either photos or text), with the option to caption with translations (possibly some kind of integrated translation website search). We want a more fluid design, the ability to put icons anywhere. In short, we want to know what you would do! We've got the language skills, as 2 natives and 6 3rd year students (all currently studying in Germany), but we want your ideas! Please reply on here or email us at [email protected], or if its after a month, [email protected] (hosting due to expire, not entirely sure how we will proceed yet!). P.S. We know not everyone is as passionate about the subject as we are, but obviously price can be discussed. We're students and we're not exactly rolling in money (we needed a grant for our App Dev Licence), but a potential share in profits is on the cards. Plus it'll be fun, with a great multi-media experience.

sounds interesting and quite involved. wish I had the time to dig into it and help out. You really should take a listen to Buzzcast #8 here- http://idevdepot.com/episode08/ great tips and advice from David about finding an advanced developer and what kind of details to give them to start building plug-ins. that's more than 'a' plug-in you are requesting. you'll need a few. I would also highly suggest looking at this app built by a BT member- http://itunes.apple.com/app/english-russian-travel-phrasebook/id517270293?mt=8 Russian Phrasebook that is just a well designed app that you guys might get inspiration from. I haven't seen him @ in a bit (which probably means he building something else amazing...) Good luck and keep hacking at it, you'll be surprised what you can build!

@atrain, he said geniuses, let me take this one! ;p @benthacker, atrain is probably the most experienced plugin maker around, I would definitely take his advice and listen to that podcast, david explains PERFECTLY how to hire a developer for this sort of thing. And heck, when you get it done, throw it on the market to make a few bucks? Through, like atrain said, it sounds a little more in depth then a simple old .m .h plugin. Your guy will need to be creative. Cheers, David buzztouchmods.com

Cheers guys. I will definitely look into everything you guys have suggested. Really I should learn to code for a project like this, but I've been pretty pleased with Buzztouch (plus it got us an awesome grade and (a tiny) investment from some business people!). Its just such a daunting task, but I know how exciting it can be. We really are trying to make something special and form into a company, with options for further languages and new features. If you guys have any other advice, we'd gratefully receive it.
