App Idea

SO, im wanting to try out another idea for an app, however not sure on exactly what approach to take, i am seeing many roads with this one, but i am stuck at the crossroads. 1. i think i need to utilise some sort of MySQL intergration here - the app will connect to a website and daily, a simple multiple choice question will appear as the main screen, then other screens for displaying statistics on previously answered questions. 2. i am thinking i will need to go mostly HTML on this one, but knowing apple the simple use of so much web content will flag it immediately for rejection, so how to get around it? is there a way to implement some sort of SQL intergration into the app that connects to a MySQL database on a webserver to query/add/edit without having to simply use URL pages. Interested to hear some of your thoughts. Dave

Hi Dave, I don't think Apple minds all that much if you connect to a web host to get data. I think what they really don't like is when people just serve up sites via an app. They figure you could just launch a browser and get the same thing. What they value is apps that utilize iOS functionality, and provide a compelling reason to keep coming back. That being said, you could create an HTML Doc screen that calls a php script to generate the daily question. The script on the web server would run a query against your database and, depending on whatever conditions you set, generate the question. Then you could have another script that generates results for previous questions (or that question, or whatever). It's worth a shot to see what happens. Since you're not calling a web page, but rather generating content for your app via a php script and a mySQL call, it's less likely to get flagged, in my opinion. Lots of apps do that that have already been approved. If there is more content you could add that takes advantage of iOS features, or makes it interactive without looking like you've just launched a browser, you'll probably be OK. Mark
