I upgraded to Mountain lion on my 2011 Mcbook pro several months ago and if anything, it is faster than snow leapord/Lion - my browser works fine and support for 2 x external monitors is awesome - i use it as my #1 workstation for everything and it performs 100% - best thing i can suggest, take the HDD out of it and toss it in the bin, spend a bit of money on a SSD, the performance increase will blow your mind!

@st726, have you updated to 10.8.2? That is supposed to smooth out performance.

@st726 - i have a sandisk 128Gb SSD - all the RAM and CPU in the world wont help you if the read/write speeds to your hard drive are crappy - SSD will definately fix this.. Mine now runs like a champ - with 4Gb RAM and the i5 processor - and i flog the hell out of it daily..

I finally upgraded, forced to upgrade lol.. but it works awesome. A few things to mention however: 2009 MBP, upgraded ram from 4GB to 8GB, new hard drive clean install of Mountain Lion and a new logic board. I guess that makes for brand new spanking MBP. However, I do find it faster but noticed that it drains the battery. I probably have to change that as well. But i like the new features being that I was on Snow Leopard previously. Xcode loads quickly too!
