What Image Type we should use? GIF, JPEG, PNG ...

Well, during the first UK Meetup this afternoon, I raised a concern about one of my app icons. I found out what it was. It was the first icon was a GIF image. All the others were JPEGs and PNG. While I had two other guys with me and David on Skype, it was now pretty clear what the answer was. I was given thus useful link from 'krumike', and thought I should share it with you. http://mobile.tutsplus.com/tutorials/mobile-design-tutorials/mobile-design_png-or-jpg/ I can explain the problems with GIF. - You are restricted to 256 colours - It's an old picture technology ---- But the most important problem is that it's not compatible with iOS So the iPhone app will keep having to fetch the image from the Internet for icons. It doesn't store it as part of the app data. This means it has to be online to fetch the image. If you are not online, then it shows as a big grey question mark. I hope this helps you when selecting images types. - Avoid GIF and use PNG
