Is it possible with ZZ?

I want to make an app where you can read news from different newspapers. It would be very similar to the app "Pulse" but target older people, in Sweden to begin with. Here you should be able to categorize what type of news and from which paper. I'm thinking using RSS feed here. This is in the very early state and the problem i see right now is that if you link to an RSS-feed you will be link to that specific news-site if you click on a link, and wont see the whole article in the app. Before i start and go in to deep in this, do you guys think this is possible. Maybe have some tips for me or if you have another idea, other then RSS, how to get the news in to the app. Best regard, Jack

Hi in Stockholm. Without sounding cliche' - it's very possible. There is not a built in limitation to what you can create using buzztouch. However, there is a very steep learning curve, especially for folks without any experience or technical background. If you're targeting iOS, and the App Store, you'll want to work hard to make sure your app isn't a "web app" disguised as a native iOS app. Apple frowns upon this and will likely reject your creation if it's nothing more than a list of links that load web content that's otherwise readable and discoverable using their native Safari browser (comes on the devices). You mentioned "Pulse" and I'm not familiar with it. But, I would suspect that it uses high quality design, functionality, and features that make it much better than a web app (even thought it consumes RSS web-centric content). This is great but does probably require lots of design and feature work. You'll probably end up doing something like... --Loading the RSS feeds into a backend database so you can filter, refine, organize the content for your app users. --Setup a way to allow users to save favorites. This may or may not require a backend component (saved on the device or on a backend database). You're right in that the biggest challenge you'll have (in my opinion) is getting to the content, and not the entire webpages. This is tough but doable. For sure you should pursue this, it sounds like a great app and we know you can do it :-)

Hello again! Thanks David for the quick response and great tips! We will be targeting Android devices to begin with. Do you have any idea where we could find an RSS feed plugin for Android OS? Just to clarify, neither I nor my companion has any experience from coding with Java before and we need it to be finished in around 2 months. Do you still think this is doable?

Plugin: I've not seen any RSS plugins for Android. But, a simple post to the forum like "Can somebody make an RSS Android plugin" may get one going. Small motivators are enough sometimes. Timeframe: Very tough to say. It seems to me that the backend logic / database / management effort you'll need to do in curating all this stuff will be the biggest challenge. Creating the mobile app is normally not as much effort as all the design and "long term" type plans (like organizing an efficient backend to manage all this stuff). Consider the 4 D's when planning these projects: 1) Design. Who's doing the art, layout, style, look / feel of the app? How long will it take you to nail this down? 2) Developer: Assuming you use buzztouch or other tools, assembling all the screens is generally not the biggest challenge. 3) Distribution: Are you prepared to distribute? App Stores / Markets and other outlets require you to establish some accounts and things. This should only take a few days but is worth considering. 4) Dedication: How dedicated are you to making this happen. And, who on your team will be the person Championing the project. Somebody will need to be organized, well versed in the end-goal, and well aware of the processes in order to get this done. 60 days is plenty of time in most cases. But, only you can decide if you're going to be able to get all the parts working together in time. Hope this helps.
