I'm a brand newbie I must be missing something here

Ok, brand new to this site, took some buzz 101 classes and I'm just trying to do the 1st app from the class where you put in your email in a column and a map location. I unzip the code like it says then open it in Eclipse and I still get the little red "x" next to the svr. I followed right along with the demo video 3 times now and it still give errors and will not run in the emulator. The Eclipse version is the Java EE and I have downloaded the android sdk and the google avi 8. what am I missing here? Thanks for helping a newbie.

Hi @Brad, Welcome to buzztouch! Give this doc a read...it's step-by-step, start-to-finish, illustrated guide to Android and buzztouch! http://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf If you still have problems, let us know. The output you're seeing in the Console tab is probably giving you a hint at the issue. I'm going to guess it's asking you to fix the project properties! Mark

Thanks, I will try that first and get back with you. Yes one of the errors it says something like Geocode or GeoMap error. Thanks

The GeoPoint errors mean that you don't have the correct Google API specified in the project properties. Right-click the project...select Properties > Android, select Google API 8, OK, and you should be good!

What version of buzztouch? v1.4, v1.5 or v2.0 Do you have the Android SDK API's level set in the project?

Cool, API 2.2 level 8 gets rid of errors. Great work. Next, why won't it install on the emulator? Tons of reasons for this too. But, I would bet 100% that the emulator you "setup" isn't running Google API 2.2 level 8. It's important that the emulator you use runs the same operating system as the target you build for (in this case Google API's level 8). The idea is that you can setup lots of different emulators to run lots of different tests. It's a bit tricky to get used to but does get easier.

Thanks David. I finally got the emulator to work and I actually downloaded the apk file to my android and it worked! Wow. However what I was not able to figure out yet, it why the location map works on the buzztouch website but not on the emulator or on my android phone. All it shows is the red pin and nothing else. No streets, nothing. Is there something else I need to download into eclipse? Maybe I missed something?? Thanks

Hi Brad, In order to see the actual map tiles, you need to create a Google Maps API key, based off your release keystore, debug keystore, or both! There's a chapter about it here: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf Mark

Thanks Mark. Can I send a jpg screen shot of another project app I'm making? How do I do that on here? I have one error code on this app. It was a practice app "scores app" that "CompuCamp" made on youtube. I followed it to a tee I think and there is an error under the BT screen_settingsdevice area. Not sure why this happened. I know I now have everything set up to the Google API 2.2 API 8 now. My first app worked fine. Thanks

You can email me the screenshot at MrkFleming at gmail dot com. Or, get the screenshot and post it online somewhere (like DropBox), and post the link here. Mark

Can you send me your source code zip file? The one you downloaded from buzztouch? I'll run it through my Eclipse and see what happens. Mark

Hi Guys, Just started today with trying to make an Android app. Mark, I followed the link you put up on here and it went swimmingly, till....... I came to the point where I have to install the ADT for Eclips? The link given there doesn't work, so now I'm stuck because I have no clue what to do next. Help would be very much appriciated.
