screenshot dilemma

Concerning the new iPhone 5 screenshot requirement - I thought this would only be necessary if you were using Xcode 4.5, but I just tried to submit a 1.5 binary using Xcode 4.4.1 and my app was rejected for missing an iPhone 5 screenshot. I'm just confused as to why it assumes my app supports iPhone 5. I don't know too much about how it works, but does ITC think that I am submitting an app for iPhone 5 because the interface auto-adjusts to fit any screen size? I guess my question is, is 2.0 being updated to account for this? Like in the way that there is customization options for "small device" and "large device", will there also be an "iPhone 5" customization area in the advanced options?

The screenshot issue you're dealing with is probably a new Apple requirement - regardless of what you're compiling for. They normally want screenshots for iPhone and iPad (if iPad is supported). In their minds the "iphone is the iphone" and they dont' distinguish between the two. They do, but they don't. If a customer visits the app store with an iPhone (3, 4, retina, 5, whatever) they can install iPhone apps - period. This means it's not surprising at all that they would require you to upload an iPhone 5 screenshot regardless of whether or not your app is optimized for the latest phone. As far as additional options in your control panel..don't expect this. Good discussion about this idea here: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=BED53FC230ADDE63130A8B7

Does your build include the [email protected] file? Its rumored that having that file is how xCode knows that you're "supporting iphone 5" and thus requires the new screenshots. But there's still a lot of confusion about Apple's announcement regarding if its required or not. Some people are just letterboxing their screenshots. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the responses guys @David - thanks for the link, I'll have to keep an eye on that thread. These changes are at least cool because they sometimes force me to get into the code and figure stuff out @Stobe - That worked! It seems that the [email protected] file does in fact identify your app as an iPhone 5 app to ITC. My app is now "waiting for review". On another note, I just started listening to the buzzcasts - good stuff!

Hey, I'm having the 'missing screenshot' alert too on ITC. So, to solve, do I... a) Delete the [email protected] file, archive and submit or... b) use photoshop and a iPhone 5 psd to simulate the look of my app on iPhone 5? c) something completely different! Thanks in advance.

In answer to my own question... I deleted the .png mentioned in the file above. Now, the missing screenshot warnings don't come through following submission to ITC. It could be that I've done something wrong though, guess we'll see when the app is reviewed in a week or so.
