Online Database Options

Hello All, I am very, very new to this whole Buzztouch thing and the question I have may well have been answered elsewhere before, but I have spent a long time lately going through the forums and nothing has quite covered my exact question. If I am wrong and it has - I am happy to be pointed towards a previous post. The app I am hoping to build once I have learned a lot more about all of this is very much like a dating service (it's not that - but a similar concept). I would like users to be able to input information about themselves (ie. skills, location, what they are searching for, etc) and then have others be able to search for people matching those criteria. I have had a look at Applicasa and I am in the process of getting more information about how it works, but I was wondering if anyone knows if there are other similar services out there that I can compare to Applicasa to see if they do things different/better. Ideally, if I can work it out, I would like to create iOS and Android versions of my app and have them both work with the same database. Not sure if that is possible, but thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for your help. Sean

Parse.com might be worth a visit. I have only ever used their push notification services, but they do provide other mobile support services which from memory might be relevant.

Sounds like a cool idea. Based on what you want to accomplish could you create a form and place just the form on the app?...the form would then connect to your database out in the cloud somewhere. buzztouch recognizes html so the "looks" of it would be easy, however the calls to and from the database would likely have to be done with php. (or asp if you are a windows fan) I have never tried this, and frankly would not know exactly where to start, but It seems that if your app called back and forth from your website that does the same thing you could get a "double whamy" in that you would have some people using the app to store or retrieve info from the DB and then other who do it on the web...also might make your app more popular quicker as well as fill your DB quicker since you have two ways for info to go in and out.... Cheers Al :-)

Thanks for your advice and help. I've had a look at Parse and got more information back from Applicasa. They both look good, but Applicasa is $49 per month and Parse is $199 per month, so that made that decision fairly easy for me at this early point in my app writing experience. That story may well change as I get more knowledgeable about this. I also appreciate your feedback ASusoeff - I'll have to find out if I am able to tie the app in to a website to have members also go the website route if they prefer. That would work for both of the app ideas that I currently have in my head. Off to do some more research. Thanks again - looking forward to working this stuff out. Sean
