Button item properties screen not saving images

I'm trying to save an image to a button on the button item properties screen. I have downloaded the image, selected it to both small and large devices and hit the saved button. When I return to see if the image has been saved, it is no longer listed on the button item properties screen. The button but not the image shows in the emulator. I have tried using different images, have tried adding image buttons to different screens, all with no success. The buttons are saved to the screens but not the images. I am developing Android 2.0 apps on a PC with Vista OS. Any idea what's happening and how to fix it?

Have you added those button images in your project file in eclipse? And whats the size of your button image? Try adding the image files in drawable folder of your project. For small screen use icons of size not more than 72x72 and for large device not more than 114x114.

I have added them to the drawable folder. The screen size is 200x201, and I have used that size, in fact the same image, in another app with no problem. Before I open the project in eclipse, the images don't save on the buzztouch site.

I uploaded an image of 72x72, and when I saved (confirmed with check mark)the image to both size devices and come back to check the button from the menu buttons screen, the image does not get saved. The place to select the image is empty. I put the image in the drawable folder, but it never gets saved and entered into the configuration file.

Well try entering the values in config file manually and see if it works.

You're asking about a few different things here. Adding images to the drawable folder, images not saving, etc. "Before I open the project in eclipse, the images don't save on the buzztouch site." Where are images not saving on the buzztouch site?

Sorry that I'm not clear in what's happening. Here's a step by step: 1. Start a buzztouch application 2. Add a menu button screen 3. Add a button label 4. Go to button item properties screen 5. Upload image to images folder 6. Select uploaded image and save in "image name small device" and "image name large device" 7. Return to menu button screen At this point, if I return to the item properties screen for the image just saved in 6 above, the image name is no longer listed on the screen for either small or large devices. If I download the source code and import it into Eclipse, a button has been created with button name but no image. Thanks for the help. Mike

Thanks Mike, good info...this does sound like a control panel problem (buzztouch.com control panel) and we'll look into it right away and report our findings here.

Hi again... I just tested this and cant' seem to replicate what you're describing. I literally followed each step you listed. I'm trying to figure out if this an issue with... a) The File Manager. This is what you use to upload and manage assets, like images. or b) The Properties windows for the button. This is the screen where you enter values, like an image name then Save. Both of these seem to work...not sure where to go from here. I'm sure there's something wrong, and believe you that it's not working, it's just a matter of figuring out where it's failing. Checking a few more things...stay tuned...

Found it! I just duplicated this in another app. It appears to be related to "some apps" and not others. More shortly.

Figured this out! There is an issue in the control panel when creating nicknames. If you enter an apostrophe in a screen nickname, like Joe's Screen, it will cause the item properties screen to error. We'll need to look into this. I found this after seeing your Tim's Tavern screen. When I changed it to Tims Tavern, all was well. Again, we'll need to isolate this and get a permanent fix figured out. In the meantime, don't use apostrophe's for screen nicknames and you should be OK. Thanks TONS for sticking with this and helping us find this sort of thing. Giant help.

Thanks, David, and you're welcome. I really appreciate your being so responsive, and I've noticed that throughout the forum postings. I especially appreciate your kindness to those code handicapped buzztouch users, like myself, who don't always know how to explain the problems we're having. I love buzztouch and the buzztouch community. I have been having trouble with implementing Parse Push Notifications because of my code limitations, but AlanMac has sent me a pdf that I think will get me over the hump. If his pdf is able to walk me through what code to put where, I think anyone will be able to do it. Look for him to share it with the community. Thanks, again. Mike

Oops. Sorry, David. Another problem. The apostrophe is gone from the screen nickname, but now when I try to select the image from the images folder, nothing happens. "Select" does not put the image in either the "image name small device" or the "image name large device" box. Mike

The saga continues. Fix one thing, break something else, the story of a web developer! LOL. I have this fixed, minor typo I made when debugging / fixing the previous apostrophe thing. And, you should be able to re-use apostrophe's in your nicknames and nav bar header title entries. Cheers.

David, For the HTML Plug in, I had the same problem in the Top Navigation Bar, Bottom Toolbar area when selecting a screen that had an apostrophe in the name as I had with the image name and buttons previously. Same problem, I suspect. For example, “Tim’s Tavern” screen name would not work, but “Tims Tavern” would. You may need to look into this, as it looks like a similar problem. I’d like to use the apostrophe here too, but then no screen would be displayed when “Right Button Type” is used. Mike

@Mike: Yup, totally understand. We're updating lots of these plugins this week and this is for sure on the list. The issue is exactly the same in all the instances. But, the permanent fix is in tons of different places (one each for every screen type / plugin). We'll get em' all with the updates we're rolling out over the next week or so.
