App Store Appeals

Hey everyone! I was just curious - has anyone ever sent an appeal to the App Review Board and actually turned the tables (i.e. rejected --> approved)? I am awaiting the results of my latest appeal and I'm just wondering whether any success stories exist out there! ;) Have a good start to the week! Nicholas

Yup, several and been successful too. I had an app that I coded natively, outside of BT. It was rejected as they said the radio was not working thus couldnt be certain that my opening the background mode for audio playing in the background was appropriate. However, I'd been listening to the radio through my app, for hours at a time so I knew it worked. I checked all of data and could see no crash reports, etc. So, I wrote to Apple, explained it could take a while to load and that I'd tested it extensively and it worked. Several days later it went straight from rejected to processing for app store and on sale. So yes, if you have a valid response they are human and do listen.

Nice to hear! My first two iPhone apps were rejected and i have sent them to appeal as well. Does anyone know how long an appeal usually takes? David

Thanks for the response, Alex! Each time, it's been very subjective with their infamous "issue 10.6". I spoke to a representative after my 3rd rejection and he told me exactly what he would like to see implemented and even that didn't help this 4th time around. I'm still waiting for a response for my appeal, but typically, I've received a response within a day. I'm still waiting a response for my latest appeal - maybe longer is better in terms of the chances of moving from rejected to on sale? Nicholas

I'd say it all depends on what you're app was rejected for. If you're app gets rejected for "lacking entertainment value" or "having a poor interface", an appeal won't help you're case. I once wrote an appeal trying to argue something along the lines of, "look at this app in the App Store - it has much less lasting entertainment value than mine and it is ranking well". They ended up calling me and basically told me "tough crap - some stuff slips through the cracks but yours didn't" ( in much kinder words of course :) )
