Back from BuzzTouch meetup

BT folks - Just back from impromptu meetup with a few good folks. Met David and forum members Andy Dahl and Warren Evans and even took my good lady along. Superb afternoon spent listening and learning from some top, top guys and hope it is the start of something. Warren has a knowledge of racing that would make a commentator retire and was a great host while Andy is a pleasant gent that is going places, smart chap with great ideas. For those who have not met David, he is just like you all imagine, he has 3 heads, 6 arms - all constantly connected to two laptops and an iPhone - and dresses in an outfit that is a crossover between the batman costume and 70's David Bowie. Warren and Andy super nice, professional gents that anyone of us would welcome at our thanksgiving (other holidays are available) tables. I really would jump on any chance you have to get together and spend some time with fellow BT'ers. Best Saturday I have spent in a good while. No housework you see! We all ate, chatted BT and plans and I for one came away a richer person. Only because I pinched all their wallets though. Ps @Paddy I got the hair sample

There really isn't any replacement for in person meetings. The Buzztouch community has been great at using technology to communicate, but even so, it will really enhance our community as the meetups come together.

Awesome, glad a bunch of meetups are forming, and glad you posted about it. Keeping a eye on the meetup page for any that head my way. Cheers, David

Me too look forward to the Uk meet up, I feel that the community is evolving so beautifully that it spurs me on to steal what time I can to be on the forum and catch up on developments.

Sounds like an awesome day. Are most of Davids arms biomechanic? Powered by a large solar panel implant on his back? Hopefully someday I will be able to attend a meetup myself.

I can't really add anything more than MacApple, but it was a blast meeting other users, learning a bit more about Buzztouch, the challenges everyone faces and confirming that David really is just as patient and kind in person, as he is on the forum. And it was really cool that he could shake hands with all of us at once... and still have a free hand for his drink!

Jealous you guys got to eat, I think we blew right by lunch when we met up. Did manage to sneak in a beer, but too much to talk in such a short time. Bummed I couldn't catch up with the gang this round, but seems David likes the midwest, so he will (better) be back we hope! Would have been great to meet Andy & Mac and his better half. Nothing better han a few hours to talk shop and ideas. Impossible to not learn frm David and his excitement to teach is something they need to bottle up and sell. Stick that hair sample in a jar and we can start working on a plug-in from it. (Don't tell him about the cryogenics plans yet...) Cheers to Warren for organizing and chauffering, I think we may have our designated BUZZTour driver. Safe journeys home David, sounds like you're on the road again soon a little furthur north! I hope you can make that UK Meetup too, that will be like our reverse version of the Beatles invasion!

It has been a great time. We also got to spend some time with Tony (MAGIC_MAN) the other night at his family's restaurant in St. Louis - an amazing place, highly recommend it if you're ever in the area. We must have worn out poor David - contrary to popular belief, he does sleep... in fact, it is almost 11 AM and he's still sacked out in the spare room. Tim, the one thing we missed out on was getting a picture back in May, but we do have a couple of shots this time around. I'll see if we can get David to post them here.

Also, I must tell you what a pleasure it was to meet Keith and Trish, and Andy as well. All the comments on here about the meet-ups are dead on, and it has been so great to connect with such amazing people.

Just after 4:00 AM on the west coast and I'm home safe after a midnight flight and a few hour drive from San Francisco. Figured I'll finish some thoughts I started on this thread before grabbing a few hours rest. What a wonderful weekend! Warren's an unbelievable host and his efforts putting this gathering together will be remembered for a very long time. Meeting magic_man at his fathers restaurant in St. Louis (Jimmy's on the Park) was awesome. I especially liked hackin' it up a little upstairs in the secret lair office of the finest restaurant around (not my opinion, it's an award winning place). magic_man's doing some neat things with his app and it was cool to spend some time with him. Can't wait to connect with him again and look forward to picking up the tab next time :-) Shootin' the breeze with MacApple, his cheerful and smart fair-lady (crazy Scotsman talk), and andydahl was especially cool as we wandered around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. MacApple's insanely fun, intelligent, and knows his stuff. andydalh's on a path to conquer some school app challenges and his technical background and personality, combined with buzztouch, should make this much easier. Indy is the MECA for a gear head like me. Some of the best buzztouch friends we have at Indy, talking about apps - really? WOW! And, to cap Saturday's amazing day off, Warren and I watched some crazy-folks blast their hotrods down the drag strip at Indy Raceway Park as the sunset. 500 horsepower burnouts anyone? Warren drove me back to the airport in St. Louis today (yesterday I guess) but not before taking me to the top of the ridiculously cool St. Louis Arch - Gateway to the West. Hard to imagine they squeeze little "egg shaped" elevator cars in that thing and drag daring tourists to the top. And I thought buzztouch was a tough engineering project! If you're ever in St. Louis, get to the top of that thing and look out those tiny windows at the top of the arch - the ones you didn't even know existed. More than anything this weekend, I appreciated the camaraderie, sincere hospitality, and genuine interest in buzztouch that everyone shared with me. I don't think I'll ever fully understand the impact buzztouch is making on wonderful and enthusiastic app developers all over the darned place. However, what I do understand, and will not lose sight of, and will say over and over again is this: You are making buzztouch what it is becoming, not me. Naturally I'm a necessary part of it and will continue to evolve it in ways many of you may not be able to do on your own. But, I can say 100% that without your insights, enthusiasm, energy, and skills, buzztouch would not be anywhere near what it is today. I sincerely thank you for this and look forward to the next time I can connect, in person, with the true makers of buzztouch. Passing out...back online after a full re-charge in a few hours, the week has already begun. Happy Monday.
