Barcode Scanner for both iPhone and Android (Fair warning: I'm a noob. Patience May Be Required.)

I need to add a barcode scanner to my app, but I'm no expert at coding and it seems like even those who are are banging their heads against walls on this one. So here's my question: Is there some way to launch a native application through a url? I know that zxing has a url, but it isn't working on my Android and it's only for Android, so that won't work. If it requires two URLs (one for Android, one for iPhone) that's fine, too. Help.

How do you mean? Where would I go looking for that? On BuzzTouch itself?

You could look on BuzzTouch but there are plenty other plug-ins out there. Dont think that BuzzTouch only has them. It could take a while yes, but there are plenty other places to get plug-ins. Although, some might not be compatible with xcode or Eclipse

So how would I use a non-BT plugin in BT? Or would I have to find two different plugins for Android and iPhone and use them in xCode & Eclipse, respectively?

Well since you can add plug-ins in Eclipse and xCode without using BuzzTouch, you could look through sites and maybe download plug-ins to insert into xCode or Eclipse

@ssaraj543 Late here right now, ping this thread tomorrow and we can all talk and pick some other people's brains. Welcome to BT you chaps. You have found something unique and immensely powerful. @Braden there are some forum solutions out there. Will update your other thread in AM.

Hi @ssaraj543, Welcome to buzztouch! Turns out you picked one of the more complicated things to ask for! Quite a few people have been trying to get that to work, but with not much luck. It's fairly complicated. @David and I are working on getting a scanner plugin going for Android...hopefully we'll get that done soon. Then on to iOS after this new iOS 6 launch cools down. Mark

Nice one at @GoNorthWest Was hoping you'd have chimed in, knew you would. Thought I had heard somewhere that something might be in the pipeline. @ssaraj543 You could read up on 'launching native apps' and add in the URL scheme, problem I see right away though is that your code is going to be assuming that the user has the barcode scanner on their phone. As Mark said above it is causing headaches for a few people as we speak. Have a look at this link and you'll get an idea of the steps involved in calling on an app from your app: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7658685/how-to-open-native-ios-app-calendar-notes-from-a-link-on-website

Hey, has anybody made any progress on this question? I'd dearly love a good scanner product to use for Passbook apps. We've looked at Manatee works, a new scanner SDK which seems very effective for 2-D barcodes, but haven't tried to make it work yet. Cheers, Tom
