Trouble Getting File>New Android App To Appear

Ok so here is my issue: First, I had this error Android requires compiler compliance level 5.0 or 6.0. Found '1.7' instead. Please use Android Tools > Fix Project Properties And came across this Stack Overflow article on how to solve it, and then I got this error: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7637144/android-requires-compiler-compliance-level-5-0-or-6-0-found-1-7-instead-plea /buzzTouch/gen already exists but is not a source folder. Convert to a source folder or rename it. Which then brought me to this help topic on BT site http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=CF8461FF153613B&currentPage=339 I think (assume) all my issues are because "File>New Android App" doesn't appear, which would mean I did something wrong in the installation? Here are some error messages http://i.imgur.com/GKm4I.jpg And my SDK Manager: http://i.imgur.com/mFwY3.jpg Thank you so much if anyone can help!

Hi @Photon, Welcome to buzztouch! Here's a step-by-step, illustrated, start-to-finish document on how to do Android with buzztouch: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf From the images you posted you're almost there. Try importing your source instead of trying to start a new Android project, and make sure you have the Google API 8 downloaded in your SDK Manager. It's all in the guide! Let me know if you continue to have problems after resolving those issues. You're super close! Hang in there! Mark

Ok so I think I needed to grab the android versions Per the illustration on page 25 of the .pdf. So I downloaded the packages, and restarted Eclipse, and then file>imported my newly saved app unzipped into a fresh directory.. Selected the new fileset in my project explorer, and did Run As> Android application and it seemed to load, then stop... and so I redid the process and it gave me these error messages: http://i.imgur.com/SFiFp.jpg I feel like I almost had it!! I opened up a few AVD's. one on 4.1 and one on 2.2 (16 api, 8 respectively) and I had 2 running, then a third one popped up and force closed, while the other two had the android OS running fine but couldn't find the app anywhere This is exciting, we are getting somewhere :]

All those GeoPoint errors are due to not having the right API selected for the project. Right-click on your project, select Properties, then Android, and make sure Google API 8 is selected. Don't pick the Android API or it won't work. Mark

Ok, this may just be semantics, but in my Eclipse Classic (Indigo) installation, this is the path to starting a new Android project: File > New > Project > Android > Android Application Project Mark

That is what I would have thought, but I am using Juno, (Probably not semantic) Just hard to follow when the example doesn't match the software

In my Juno installation, I have: File > New > Project > Android > Android Application Project So, it sounds like you may not have everything installed. Go to Help...About Eclipse SDK. Click Installation Details. You should see (among others): * Android DDMS * Android Development Tools * Android Hierarchy Viewer * Android Traceviewer * Eclipse SDK How does that compare to yours? This is a problem I had as well, I just started a week ago mind you. In the instructions they say they use galileo, and I tried that, but something went wrong during ADT installation (something about android heirarchy) And I went to helios. I tried Helios, things worked well, but I had problems upon problems, with soooo many red X alerts, then I tried juno. Same problem.(though I fixed by right clicking project>properties>google API, not android 2.2, which I think was the default build path) That minimized all the errors. I proceeded to make an AVD with 9 megabytes of memory, to make it run faster, and set the build on google API 2.2. Things are working fine for me now. I'm using Juno, so the "new android application" button doesn't show up, however, go to "other" or Ctr+N in the "New" tab, and there should be something that says "create project from source" or something like that. Trust me I went crazy the first week too, but things are fine now. The process was touch and go for me, but I hope it helps you as well :)

Anything worth getting is never easy, just have to grind until you get things right. I posted on the forums for the first time specifically for this problem. Hahaha
