Best way to update published app with new plugin content

I want to add two new nifty plugin features thanks to the ace programmers of the Notepad and Blog Pro plugin. I obviously have to add code and recompile, upload as an update. What to do in my panel? If I add content in the panel it won't work until the update is approved. If I don't add anything in the panel the update won't have any of the new features in the UI even though it has the code, asking for rejection. I'm probably not seeing the obvious... Anyone? Bueller?
