Menu list and plugins in BTv2.0

Hi all, The plugin market has been launched. This sounds very promising and I looked a little bit about the new plugins available. I am still waiting to see what comes before buying some plugins there but this is definitely a breakthrough. Congratulations. I just have a comment about menu list (but the question can be extended to other screens). I think that this screen is one of the most used screen, however the menu list screen of BTv2.0 has much less options than the v1.5. That is where some plugins come to our rescue. First of all I don't understand why some features disappeared like the header image. I am sure it is a technical reason, and why not paying a few dollars to get a lot of options for this screen. If I understand correctly, a plugin is a screen (for a BT newbie user like me). Now how will I handle a menu list with different options provided by different plugins, like "Plugin menu list with header image", "Plugin menu list with icon per line", "Plugin menu list with adujstable margin and corners" and so on? Will the plugins be added on a common screen? Or will each plugin will have his own screen meaning that for instance I can have the header image OR the adjustable corners (except if a plugin does both)?

Hi @Dromundi, The addition of the plugin market is indeed very cool! As I understand it, and I could be wrong, you're basically going to have an "or" choice with respect to plugins that are variations on a theme. So, in your example of the menu list, you would need to pick the plugin for that particular screen that has the features you want. You may use multiple plugins in your app that are similar, and you use them for different screens, but you can't use multiple plugins in the same screen (so far as I know). So, it's up to the plugin makers to enhance their creations and provide all the functionality their users are requesting. With respect to the loss of features from earlier versions to newer, I have to defer to buzztouch on that one. I think part of it was a tradeoff in functionality in order to get the new plugin framework, which is the basis of v2.0, ready. But I'm sure there's more to that answer. If you have an idea for a plugin, put it out there, and I'm sure somebody will snatch it up and roll with it! Mark

Good points here. The reason "all the features" of the v1.5 menu list are not in the generic Simple Menu plugin are numerous. In fact, that's the reasons it's called "Simple" menu instead of Complex Menu, or Hard to Understand Menu, or Causes Lots of Confusion Menu. LOL. The fact is, some of the community understood and embraced all the complex options that were available in the v1.5 menu. Many of them did not. And, many of the option were not supported on Android which caused even more confusion. If a plugin developer wants to create something super-duper complex, and an app owners wants to use something super-duper complex, cool. The platform will support this. But, many app owners are just getting started and simple plugins (like the simple menu) are a better way to start. In the end it will be up to the market to evolve and the app owners to decide what screens and functions (and complexities) they want to add to their app. Lastly: Anyone can make a plugin. The Plugin Creator tool is only available for upgraded accounts but a plugin can be created with the time saving tool. This means that as the market evolves app owners will often be asking themselves "Should I make this or should I pay a few bucks for it." Both cases are reasonable.

I am working on adding some of the old features back to the Menu with Image plugin. So more to come! It may take a bit of time, and I could use help with prioritization. Let me know what is most important to you. I will likely focus on the low hanging fruit at first. Here is the list of ideas I have so far--this includes some potential new functionality: 1. Description line (the second line below the title line) 2. Icon on each line 3. Sound effect for transition to the next page 4. Audio background 5. Hide from search results 6. iAd 7. More image sizes--more aspect ratios on the images 8. Image corners, and space around the images 9. Allow animations instead of an image 10. Have the image change at a specified number of seconds 11. Alphabetical list (for very long lists--may work in iOS only) Some of this perhaps should go into a separate plugin--maybe there is one plugin with fewer options that costs less and is easier to use, and another one with all the bells and whistles that is more advanced.

Thanks for your replies. Marc you first confirmed what I guessed, so that only one plugin can be used for one screen. It may be obvious but I really wanted to make sure my understanding was correct. So as David and you mentioned, this is up to the plugins developer to match as close as possible the needs of the users if they want their plugin to be bought/installed. That's great Susan if you will update your plugin! About your prioritization you guessed right in my opinion as the 2 main features for me are 1. And 2. A very personal expectation which was not in v1.5 is the possibilty to play with the radius corner of the menu list. This option was available for the image but not for the list itself. That brings me to 2 other questions. What happens if we buy a plugin that is for example 3 months later improved with new functionalities? Will the upgrade be automatic (if we use the BT server)? My second question is : Will there be a specific forum part about plugins needs? (or maybe there already is and I missed it)

Good question on the upgrades. My thought is that returning the plugin to 1.5 will be included in the original plugin. But if there is some extensive new functionality, then I am thinking I should create a separate plugin with a separate charge.
