Developing For The iPhone

Hello, I'm new to the process of developing apps for the iPhone. Do I need an Apple Developers Account and an iMac Desktop to do this. Is this correct? Can someone provide me with a list of things I will need and how much they will cost? Thanks

Hey, welcome to BuzzTouch. To develop and IOS app, you do need an Apple computer. You´ll need a developers account when and you want to upload the app to App Store and if you wanna test on devices. Xcode comes with an IOS simulator. The best place to start, I'd say, is to check the "How To's" section here in the Buzz Touch website. As your question appears, I'd also suggest searching the forum, most of you'r question have been our questions to, so you might find the answers. Hope this helps. Cheers

Hmmm... Thanks MadRod. I hear that there is something called SettleClouds.com that will let you build apps for the iPhone and apparently you don't need to have an Apple Computer. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not?

I've not worked with settleclouds. But one of the big main differences between buzztouch and other similar solutions is that buzztouch allows you to download the code and its yours to use as you wish and modify what you need/want (although no modification is needed, just if you want something more that buzztouch does not yet give). Other solutions, and by your description of SettleClouds it must work in the same way, you cannot donwload the code, this is, you make the app all online at their site and do everything via them and not on your own. The code is never yours, you never see it. And you're restricted to the templates or plugins they provide, since you dont have the code, you cant change anything. For me thats a big "no good". But I have a Mac, so its not a problem for me. Cheers

Good advice MadRod. Thanks. Any suggestions on what type of Apple Computer I would need that would not cost a lot of money? Any advice on a good place to get one?

Glad I could help, I think any Mac available in the stores will do the job, ones faster then others. Mini mac must probably be the cheapest. I've read that it has to be a Mac with an Intel processor. As where to get it, I wouldn't know, I'm not from the USA. Cheers.

Hi @LauraBean, Welcome to buzztouch! @MadRod did a great job answering all your questions. I was able to pick up an inexpensive Mac mini on craigslist to get me into the app development game. But do make sure it's an Intel processor version. You can also pick up a refurbished one at apple.com. Looking forward to seeing what apps you come up with! Mark
