Block or Ignore a User----->Forum Feature Request

Anyway we can get this filter on the forums? Unfortunately, could come in handy. Just like in life, I feel the best way to deal with a tatrum and bad behavior is to to ignore it ....award the good behavior...child psychology 101.. ..BT community normally a great social network. However, I am feeling a bit bruised from some forked tongues....I actually stayed off the forums for awhile because of this. Don't want to do this again. I am afraid the forum will be taken down too because of this nastiness...Any suggestions or help be more than appreciative. Sheri

@Sheri You must know you are a valued member of the community, don't stay away. I like the cut of your jib as they say, you always seem to have a nice turn of phrase. BT needs you, may the force be with you my good lady.

Yes I agree, I wrote the same earlier before the @MacApple's thread was deleted. After yesterday, I felt like leaving and still debating until some moderation is added to the forums. It is embarrassing to have threads like that and bashing users :(

A clash of opinions is always great when productive and done with respect. But sometimes a good ignore user button is even better. It would suck to see anyone leave. Great suggestion @Sheri. David buzztouchmods.com

Great idea @Sheri. I would rather filter a user from my view than see the great work being done by the BT gang sidelined because they need to discipline forum members.

Just want to throw in apologies for my part in the recent thread. I know better, and should have walked away. I'd use that Ignore button on myself right about now! Mark

Wow. I guess I really missed something yesterday. @Sheri - great suggestion on the ignore/block button. I think we've all had our share of issues where this would come in handy. I hope no one leaves. The community is always stronger when the best and brightest participate.

Unfortunately, an "ignore" or "block" user button does make lots of sense. I've been sick all day about how to rectify a wildly-gone-wrong debate among a few buzztouch enthusiasts. I've said this a few times, and I'll briefly touch on it again...the reason for the tension is that all of us care about this thing. In some cases, we care too much. In some cases, we even obsess maybe? Bottom line is that all of us want the same thing and this is good. There will be cases in the future where things are said, comments are made, and feelings are hurt. @mysps was considering leaving too "until some moderation is added." The fact is, we moderate this forum for more hours a day than most folks imagine. As most of you know, I like nothing more than to get involved in posts, help a like minded dev, and even delete a few posts. I've even been known to send some harsh emails to some users that have taken advantage of our offering, our help, our audience. I hate doing those kinds of things but it's necessary sometimes. In this case, I was literally on a plane when all heck broke loose in one thread, and then another. This happened within an hour or so. When I got an alert from a user, I risked pissing off a flight attendent and found the thread from 5,000 ft, final approach, from my iPhone. Full bars! My first reaction was sadness. My second reaction was anger. My third reaction was F-it (F intentional for emphasis) "if we have to worry about these kinds of things we'll never get any software made, any users helped, or any satisfaction at all." Imagine how shitty it is for ME to see this kind of thing. A guy breaking your hand crafted stuff, cursing at the help, spitting on the bar. Talk about a slap in the face. Wow. I didn't react right away. I did send a few emails. I'm only now processing the whole thing and have already begun to work out a strategy to flag users for BS, childish, WASTE OF TIME behavior. Think of it this way. This is MY LOSS as much or more than anyone else's. Really, how else could I look at it? I wouldn't allow this kind of thing in my home, why would I in my business? Picture a customer walking into your restaurant, seeing a bar-brawl at the counter, then walking out? I wonder how long that would keep the rent paid, lights on, food deliveries coming? 10 different folks have posted on this thread. This is great. Another sign that we all care. I'm moving on, considering new ways to prevent this in the future, and hoping it's a very long time until we see something like this again. I care deeply about each and every one of you and I sincerely apologize that you had to see, hear, or read any of this earlier this morning. As you all know, I take this very very seriously (and personally) and I may have been able to prevent the harassment early this morning. I didn't this time. I'll try harder next time. Each participant has also expressed their deepest apologies to us and you (including @Fred, that has not posted in this thread) and I trust that they are sincere. Nobody likes admitting that they acted inappropriately but all have and all have learned from it. Let it pass, smile because we care, and go make something great already! David

thanks for addressing that David. I'd much rather have you writing code and helping us than moderating. We've all got an 'ignore' button already. Works great when I've needed to use it. I'm just trying to get it to parse some XML data next or maybe transition into a modal flip view.....

i agree that the Buzztouch crew shouldn't moderate the forums. However a moderator like most forums have is a good thing to help reiterate forum rules. My original post was deleted by Davide and the quote above by David is out of context a bit. I added a note that improving the forum by adding the ability of adding user quotations to forum post to avoid yesterdays mess and also the ability to add code snippets without stripping the quotation marks so that it will help users share code! When I first joined BT in 2011, I was happy because I thought I found a great community that helped others. Heck, I was able to create two iOS apps without asking one question due to the great post by the original members. After which, I decided because my success to share my 2cents and contribute (code, documents and replies) where I could with respect to my short level of experience in ! Anyway, moving forward, I hope to contribute by developing plugins and stay away from conflicts on the forum and hope not to read anything that happened yesterday again! Sucks my original post from yesterday was deleted. I only wish the best for BT and its members.

@David  I don't think you should NOT handle it by yourself.   That is a lot for one mans shoulders.."I just  would like to see something non controversial setup technically so can get back to the mission.   It expected when you have a group as passionate as ours things will happen.  I am serious about buzztouch I have a passion for your dream.  As others.  I don't like to see all this poor bickering.  I am afraid it will be to its demise.  David, as this grows and it will...studies have showm more of this will happen... it's human nature ... Unbelievable I am going to say this ....but Facebook has this feature.....I have friends and family I have to separate or there will be holy hell...literally....I would like this set up in buzztouch is all. Maybe going to google pages or Facebook pages where this already set up so you don't have to emotionally waste your efforts on petty nonsense.  Thank you so much for your passion. My true purpose of this is to find a solution and I know there is one.
