Honeybee Mapper app Ready for Sale in Apple App store

Finally got my notice this morning "Your app status is Ready for Sale" ! Honeybee Mapper was submitted 12 days ago, and once it went into review, it got approved in 16 hours. Thanks to Buzztouch and its active forum for the help in developing my first app. Many of you have helped in various ways, and for that I'm thankful. This is a community created mapping app that helps Honeybees. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/honeybee-mapper/id555854420?ls=1&mt=8 Here are some promo codes: 9T6JN6HYMYTN PFWHXT4W93XA 64W963RNJMWH H79HXM776Y4A YNLNPMP9R74R LM69K77J6L4A 6YAAJRL7PPT4 MHH3EWXWXWT4 (If you test out the Submit feature, just put TEST into the description so I can clean up the records after the fact).

I totally remember you working on this app from quite a while ago! I thought it was an amazing concept back then, and a perfect use of smartphones! So happy to see it on the store! Mark

I was lucky to have already accumulated over 700 database entries from a similar web site I have had running for a few years. But hopefully with this on iphone/ipads, I can get many more hives recorded, so scientists and researchers can use the info in their studies. As much press as we've all heard about the problems Honeybees are having, I'm still puzzled why this hadn't been done before. I'm also working with some teachers and will be adding teaching lesson plans that incorporate field work and class room work to help grades 1-3 learn more about honeybees, and hopefully increase honeybee stewardship.

Awesome app. Learned some new stuff about bees. Shame there aren't any hives over here in Liverpool. What did you use for the screen beehives in your area that was pretty swish and the page that logged my information. Great stuff

nice, being able to add locations from the app would make for an excellent plugin... hint hint :)

Nice work, congrats. I was looking back at the thread recently and your post to limit the map area. Will have to download this and see how it works. That was a great piece of code. Didn't get a chance to add/revise my script with your code - but may need to sooner than later. Love how those circles look on the map. curious: have you heard that theroy about how cellphone waves may be disturbing bee colonies? who knows if it's true but the irony of it and your cell app to track hives is kinda bizzare.... also here's a Bee Colony location for you: http://wiki.worldflicks.org/river_trail_nature_center.html They have a working colony outside and fascinating indoor exhibit.

I would love to check out the limit map area code...I can see thousands of uses for that! I've got an app brewing that allows users to post their current location to a database, and wrote that tutorial on it quite some time ago. I agree that @RonBo should look at creating a plugin! Mark

The "Add to Map" feature is all done in PHP, that I run via a BT 1.5 Customer URL Webpage. Not sure if this is possible to make into a plugin, but I will look into it. The "View Map" feature has all the limit logic, and that's all in JS. It lets you search/limit map locations based on radius from your location when the page loads, or from a zipcode/address you enter. I also have a limit in there so that no more than XX pointers are loaded at any given zoom level; I do this to prevent slowing down the user experience. So is it possible to use existing PHP and JS code for a new plug-in, or do you have to write from scratch.

I bought a copy so I could get a review in for it. Great app and artwork! I think my neighbor two doors down has a hive going, so once I confirm that I will have a hive location for you.

I bought a copy as well. I'm super impressed with it! Graphics are very clean, the app is overall well organized, and it seems fun to use! The map page...that's just an HTML Screen that calls map locations from a database, with the Javascript that controls radius and zip? Great work! Mark

" Perhaps it can be done by the pulgin creating a dynamicly generated json file? rather than a php request? When I get time ill look into it as I see lots of usefull applications for this

Thanks so much for the support! As for the icon graphic, I used a graphics person on fiverr (http://fiverr.com/designhunterbd/design-professional-and-awesome-apps-and-icons) and got this graphic created in less than an hour! I'm not artistic at all, so gave him general design criteria along with Apple icon specs, and after a couple iterations, and $5, got the PNG file of the Bee/Compass. I then used Logo Creator ($27 bucks) to resize and add in the globe for my homepage graphic. NOTE: if you get any logo done, be sure to get it done in 1024x1024 as that is now required by Apple when submitting to app store. You can then resize down for your other sizes. Much of the JS/PHP scripting is done by another programer I found on www.fiverr.com. He is on BT now (http://www.buzztouch.com/daniellmb) if anyone needs to a truly AMAZING js/php programmer - this guy is scary he's so good, and very easy to work with. "The map page...that's just an HTML Screen that calls map locations from a database, with the Javascript that controls radius and zip?" No, the "View Map" pages uses a short HTML page called via a BT 1.5 Customer URL Webpage (passing in device location and default zoom: ?center=[deviceLatitude],[deviceLongitude]&zoom=11). It then includes a JS file to handle the screen/pan/zoom functions to get lat/lon of where the users is on the map, and then calls another PHP file (passing it appropriate lat/lon info) to pull selected records from the mySQL database hosted on my webserver. That last PHP file does return JSON formatted records, but not in BT format.
