playing local video files (embedded)

I have this serious problem. Running on BT 2.0. All I want to do is to embed some vids in my app for being able te play the vids without an internet connection being necessary. The Video has to start playing directly from a menu-item and has to stop by using a 'done' or a 'back' button.... That doesn't sound to difficult I guess....Any help on this one?? Thanx Gert-Jan

put the video files (mp4) into your bt_video directory and use the streaming video screen. Put the filename (video1.mp4) as your src in your web control panel

In 2.0 there is no streaming video screen. I had that one in 1.5 but not in the self hosted BT version 2.0

if you're talking iOS - I'm just finishing up a 2.0 Custom Plug-in that does exactly this. (needed the same thing myself :) Launching video from a row tap- This was proving to be tricky but I also decided to intercept the tap and push a new screen/view that has a button to launch the video on a seprate screen. The bonus of that is that I can have a detail/info/intro screen for the video so you can describe it to users. You can change this image and the text of the button (and of course the name of the video to play) in your control panel. It uses MediaPlayer so you get all the standard iOS controls on the video screen to start/pause/stop/scrub and enlarge it. If you are following my logic here - Does that sound like the functionality you would want in that plug-in? Does the extra screen sound like a problem or an enhancement? I was finding it hard to describe the video from the menu and just launch it. Still kicking this thing around a bit before I submit it for approval, but this just seemed like a good chance to ask what hopefully a potential users might want....??

Well that's exactly what I'm looking for (and yes I'm talking iOS). You're probably not surprised that I'm really interested in the final result of your developing. Need a test drive? I'm a professional software tester so if I can help you out on that one. Please keep me informed!! Thanx for the replies so far. GJ

Glad to hear it, so many options with these plug-ins. This seemed like something that was much needed. Tired of dealing with the YouTube lag and and wanted to watch videos off-line myself. I'll work on finishing this up next then since you're interested. I've been testing it for a couple of months and using it in some apps. No issues yet. Just need to connect it to the BT Control panel. With any luck it'll be up on the store next week and you can check it out and start using it!

I would also like to understand how to use this plugin as I have several video based apps that I would like to build. Will it play a video from any hosting account that is optimized to play on smart phones?

My Video plug-in is not yet on the market. I think it's in the review que and will hopefully be up here shortly. Originally I made it to primarily play local video, but I think the ability to play from URLs' is being added. If you want to play videos from URL, then just pointing to them via URL link *should* launch YouTube on you iOS device and play it. No need for any extra plug-ins. The plug-in is needed to play videos you package with the app. More designed for a 'off-line' viewing experience.

Great work! I hope you get it up and running soon :-) I'm really interested in this one! If you can make an audio player plugin, I'm pretty sure that many people would love to buy this too... /Peter

Hi Atrain53! Great news on the video plugin you developed. Hope it reaches the market soon, I'm in a need for such a type of plugin :)

1)can this new plugin support video from a different host than youtube? but is optimized for mobile? 2)if I'm playing a video from a host what type of plugin would it be embedded in if a special video plugin is not needed?

Hi Folks, Yes me too - we're desperate to be able to deploy some video on the device for archaeology students who will be learning how to excavate on field trips and won't have any guarantee of being able to access the Internet reliably. all the best Graham

Dear GJvanWijk thanks very much for this - I may well give it a try. Since posting my query the other night I have since discovered and purchased the AT-53 video plugin, although this is now causing compiler errors so will need to contact the makers of the plugin. Thanks again for your help all the best Graham
