Installing ADT into Eclipse

Hey Developers! I'm new to all of this and I'm trying to install ADT into Eclipse. I was almost ready to celebrate, when I looked at my Eclipse screen and got an error message in the console tab that reads: [2012-08-25 14:41:03 - DeviceMonitor] Sending Tracking request failed! In the Help Menu of Eclipse, I selected Install New Software... The instructions I was following said I should select Add and use an https:// for the location. It said if I got an error message to go back and use the http:// location, but when I tried, I got another error message saying it's already installed and won't be recognized if I try to do it again. Does the error message on my console tab have anything to do with the way I installed the ADT plugin? Either way, how do I fix it?

Ok, so I read that I'm supposed to go to Windows (in Eclipse), select Preferences, and then highlight Android on the left. After that I'm supposed to hit browse and select the location of SDK. Every time I select a location, I get a message that says: Could not find folder 'tools...ents\Eclipse\SDK Manager\'. I'm not sure what that means, since that's the actual place I put the program. Can anyone help me out with this? Oh, and Fred, thanks for responding before, but if you respond again can you make your response a bit more specific? Thanks in advance guys!

Did you verify the install?

Verify the install? Is there a separate process for that? I remember choosing packages to install. Did I need to do something else afterward?

Hi Carmen, Welcome to buzztouch! Not sure if this is the doc you're following, but it's the most recent guide to getting this stuff installed: http://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf The best process is to install in the following manner: * Java JDK * Android SDK Manager * Eclipse * Eclipse ADT Plugin Let me know if this helps at all, and if you're still stuck. We'll work through it! Mark

@ Carmen, it's not a separate process. It's just checking that what you have done was successful, plus you'll learn a bit in the process. A howto is in my guide. It helps you avoid pulling your hair wondering why something doesn't work. Fred

Some hints: * Android SDK Manger : Successful if the install completes, you can start it up, and download new APIs (Google API8 for BT v1.5/2.0, API 4 for BT v1.4) * Eclipse : Successful if you can click on the Eclipse icon and have the program open with no issues. * Eclipse ADT Plugin : Successful if the install process completes, and you have the ability to open/create a new Android application. With respect to your particular issue above, you'll need to get the Eclipse ADT Plugin installed, and things will rock and roll! Mark

Good Morning, I needed a to step away for a minute. Mark, Thanks for breaking it down. I can do all the things you mentioned except one. I don't see the option to create a new Android application. So I guess that's what the problem is. I need to properly install the ADT Plugin! Thanks!

Hello There, So I started over from scratch and did all the downloads and installations according to the tutorial Mark led me to (Thanks, Mark!). I think I'm ok with one exception. After I installed the ADT and restarted Eclipse, I got a message saying that Eclipse couldn't locate the sdk manager. I made a note of where I put it, but when I browse for it, I'm not seeing it. I wrote it down exactly as it appeared on the screen when I was installing it, so I know that's where it is. I even did a search for it, and the location came up - exactly as I wrote it. Why am I unable to select it when I hit the browse button? Is that a big issue? Carmen

Hi Carmen, That does indeed seem weird! If you can find it in Windows Explorer, trying copying the location from the address bar and pasting it into Eclipse where it asks. See if that works. Mark
