Anyone ever make an app for a business?

Didnt know where to put this topic so i posted in this section, Hello all. This business wants me to make an app for them, basic stuff like menus, call them, location, twitter feeds etc. Does Apple reject things like this? anyone ever have any problems at all with apps that are strictly for 1 business in this case a restaraunt popular where im from?

Well I had to make an app for a business. I was given a plan and all they wanted was for me to put some of their favourite attractions, restaurants and pubs so their clients can make the most out of their stay. I won't give a link to my app just yet because I have realised a major bug. When the bug is fixed, I will give a link. This may be a good example for you to base on, after I've given the link.

And my app was approved within three hours of them reviewing it. However, it did sit in the line for nearly two weeks.

If the app is merely to advertise the business you'll get rejected. Review previous app rejections in the forum and you'll see the problem. Fred

There are quite a few people on the forum here who have made apps for businesses. There can be two main reasons for Apple rejection of business apps. One is an app solely for promotion of the business. The other is an app that is basically a mobile version of the businesses website. You definitely want to go the extra mile and include some native functions like maps, a trivia quiz if applicable, etc. Here's one app I did for a client business: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macleod-family-vineyards/id515272697?mt=8&uo=4

Thanks. You can have a menu list with tabs. Create your menu list screen, then specify that as one of the tabs. Works like a charm. For the MacLeod app (actually for all of my apps), I'm using the 'menu simple advanced' plugin available at buzztouchmods.com. That allows me to use an image header as well as the menu list.

MGoBlue, I really like how the "news" section of your app looks. I've used the same plugin from buzztouchmods.com, but it links to the actual website. I want it to stay within the app and link to a screen with the content. Would it be possible for you to explain how you got your "news" rss to work the way it does?

@shenry - I completely cheat. Basically I steal the content from the client's site, post it to a site I control and reformat it to be read on mobile. Here are the basic steps: 1. Set up a word press website. 2. Install a plugin to scrape the news content (I'm using WP-o-Matic, but there are others). 3. Install a plugin or theme to make it mobile compatible 4. Grab the feed from your wordpress site to use in your app. All of my sports apps use this exact same method. There have been a couple of other methods posted in the forum in the past. Someone (David Book I believe) developed a .php script that kind of does the same thing. You upload the php to your server and it grabs feeds and reformats them for the app. You can download the source code and instructions here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/76141353/rss.zip

Thanks for the quick response! I have downloaded and looked at the .php, but I'm not a developer so I got scared :). It's my WP site that I'm trying to do this with so I guess it shouldn't be this tough. I also tried javooooo's tutorial using FeedWordPress and ended up causing my site to disappear, had to install backaup of site - don't know how the heck I did that. Finally, I've set up html.doc pages with RSSinclude script, and used yahoopipes to replace each link to website to its html.doc/with RSSInclude. But I'll need to set up 50 html.doc pages because I have 50 categories on the WP site that I want to follow. Otherwise, I'm very happy with how the buzztouchmods rss plugin looks. I'm going to give your process a shot. 1. As I already have the WP site, 2. I will install WP-o-matic. 3.Install the WPtouch plugin (will this one work, I previously had it activated, but didn't like how it looked with the giant date and no images in the post.4. Insert the feed://www... into the plugin. Is that correct? Thanks again.

WPTouch works well. Since you've got a WP site, all you need to do is install that then pull your feeds from the site. You don't need WP-o-matic unless you're trying to grab news from other sites that you want to display in your app. If it's all your own content, just pull the feeds: http://YOURSITE.com/category/news/feed http://YOURSITE.com/category/some_other_category/feed etc.

Hmmm, I think I missed something. I activated wptouch, then copied the URL for the rss into the plugin, but still seeing the entire website in Xcode/simulator. Here's a look. http://postimage.org/image/bdav92041/

If you browse to your website on your mobile phone, do you get the mobile site or the regular site?

On my iphone, I needed to select mobile theme ON, however, I could select Mobile ON in the simulator and get way too many screens before finally seeing the post. If I could bypass those 2 middle screens, I'd be doing good. Here it is with Mobile Theme on in simulator: http://postimage.org/image/farnrmcfp/
