New error in eclipse

Hello BT, I am getting this error in Eclipse when I try to launch my app in the emulator. It happens with my main app, and a "dummu" app that I just created to see if it would happen with that one, and it did. I have looked on-line and it mentioned something about re-creating adb which I did and did not help. [2012-08-23 11:08:29 - HBarcode] emulator-5554 disconnected! Cancelling 'com.example.hbarcode.MainActivity activity launch'! Any other suggestions, thanks, Howard

Hi Howard, There should be something before the line you pasted that would give us a better clue as to what's going on. The line you pasted is the final portion of whatever led up to it. Anything else in LogCat? Mark

Does this apply to you? Are you running under VMware or something? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10576996/how-do-i-run-the-android-emulator-after-a-build I'm wondering if the barcode stuff requires a library or something that the emulator isn't using? Mark

hmm, not sure what VMware is and I don't think I am using 3D acceleration. I think I ran into a lot of stuff with the barcode stuff so I wanted to start all over. I deleted the project in eclipse, re-downloaded the source code from BT and imported it back into eclipse, trying to give it a fresh start. Not sure if that caused the errors or something on the way. I am able to export it and use it on my phone just fine. I hope that gives a little more info thanks, howard

You'd know if you were using VMware! Seems like this is an emulator issue, if you're able to get it running just fine on your phone. I'd focus on doing that - running on the phone - instead of the emulator if you can, unless you want to spend tons of time figuring out what's wrong! Mark

Yea, that is what I was doing for a while just working off the phone. What I was trying to do was play with the barcode scanner app again, and trying to create it through Eclipse with a new project. I was hoping to use the emulator because when I started a new Android app and export it to my phone for testing, it does not automatically update the changes on my phone. I don't have the "refresh data" option. Or the screen that comes up automatically that the app has been updated. H-

Hi Howard, You should have the refresh data option automatically unless you've taken the app offline (meaning removed the dataURL or reportToURL). If you've left those alone, it should automatically update, or you can hit the menu button on your phone, and refresh it that way. Mark

Windows XP? That's a pretty regular error I get, since updating eclipse, when firing up the emulator. Usually 4 or 5 attempts will get it running. This is another ridiculous one. I've got about 20 emulators set up with various configurations: "No active compatible AVD's or devices found. Relaunch this configuration after connecting a device or starting an AVD" Go figure... Luckily, I use my new HTC One X as an emulator now, it did all the setting up as an AVD automatically and takes about 5 seconds to upload, install and run a bt project! It's close to heaven after over 12 months of emulator frustration.

Hi Mark, even if I create the project directly within Eclipse it will create the "dataURL or reportToURL)? H-

The dataURL and/or reportToURL can be configured using the buzztouch control panel, or by editing the BT_Config.txt file. That file is the only place it's used. Mark

Ok, so would it be worth creating a simple application to BT, then importing it, instead of creating a new one through eclipse and not BT? H-

If you create a new, from scratch application in Eclipse, you'll have to provide all the source code. That's a lot of work that requires a lot of programming knowledge. If you want to use the general buzztouch framework for an app, and expand on it, but NOT use the buzztouch control panel, you could create a one screen app in BT and then import it. That way all the files would be there. Then you could expand on it. If you're talking about just how to use Eclipse with BT, I find it much easier to do an Import instead of New Android Application using existing files. Does that help? Mark

Yea, that helps ALOT! That is what I will do. Create a single page in BT and import. I was trying to set up one to play around with the bar code scanner and not have to use my main app. thanks once again for all the help. H-

Yep! That sounds like a good plan. I'd advise to create a v2.0 app, because you can then repurpose it later if the barcode thing doesn't work out. Same with a v1.5 app, but with the plugin market coming soon, v2.0 makes more sense now! Email me if you run into any issues! Mark

Just fixed error of disconnecting. I deleted the AVD and recreated it. No more issues! :-)
