One "easy" approach to what you're trying to do is create an HTML form, using the HTML Screen, and use Javascript to accept and process the variables. This works well with something like a calculator. But, to truly understand what the best approach would be, we'll need an answer to @Fred's question of what do you want to do with the variables? Enter them in a database? PHP is good for that. Display their name on a web page for personalization? HTML5+Javascript and localStorage is good for that. It really depends on your need!
