DoJ Seizes Domains Over App Piracy For the First Time Ever

Interesting. Not quite an 'App Store Rejection' so much as App Store Removal! Wonder how long until some of the repos available via Cydia on iOS get nabbed and shut down. http://m.gizmodo.com/5936870/doj-seizes-domains-over-app-piracy-for-the-first-time-ever?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_twitter&utm_source=gizmodo_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

well, this will hopefully be good for all developers...HOWEVER....i ALWAYS fear when the government gets involved. I hope they stick to JUST going after crooks, not screwing with those of us trying to create something cool and make a couple of bucks in the process. It has been my experience that if you want something that runs perfectly to be rendered completely worthless and screwed uo, hand it over to the federal government.

I hear you but this isn't a case of SOPA or Wikileaks, this is simply shutting down sites that are, in no uncertain terms, stealing. If Gov't agencies don't close them down nobody will. I'm all for freedom of speech and net neutrality but when it comes to blatant theft and copyright infringement something has to give. Always enjoy hearing others thoughts on these issues. Yir pal MacApple who thinks all we need is right here on BT!

Oh ...YEAH, i totally agree with that Mac, just seems that every time the feds get an inch they think they are the ruler...The one really cool thing about the net has always been the truly "free enterprise" way that it sort of just "IS"...i would hate to lose that do to censorship (already happening in many countries) and governmental control.

I think this is positive push in the right direction - although the internet has been much of a "free enterprise" as Asusoeff said, the people that do it legitimately, in most cases have a small amount of fear in the back of their minds that their hard work and ideas will be stolen - exactly as they have been on these illegal app sites, and there is no one to "come in to bat" for them - as the article reads, if the govt's stay on the righteous path - i think this can be a very positive thing for hard working, legitimate app developers like us, and in turn we should start seeing the demand for illegal free versions of our apps diminish (lets face it, this is why these sites are so poular) and the demand for the real thing - wether is be paid or not, increase steadily. That can only be good for business. Dave
