Help with app rejection

Reasons for Rejection: 4.4: Location data can only be used when directly relevant to the features and services provided by the app to the user or to support approved advertising uses 8.5: Use of protected 3rd party material (trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, otherwise proprietary content) requires a documented rights check which must be provided upon request 4.4 I guess is because I have location services turned on but don't really use it in the app. It was mainly for the buzz touch map to work so I guess I can turn that off. As for the 8.5....... I'm doing a fan app for a popular tv series in the UK. This has information on series, episodes. Has images from the show and DVD covers etc etc. I see a lot of other Fan apps out in the stor doing similar.....how would people get around this? Thanks in advance Steve

I am in the same boat as you. Turn off the map location and delete all the photos or prove that you have agreement with them. They rejected mine because I use a not even close 5 cercles Olympic games logo which was a lefover from my tests in the images directory. It wasn't. Even public so.

8.5: Use of protected 3rd party material (trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, otherwise proprietary content) requires a documented rights check which must be provided upon request I see a lot of other Fan apps out in the stor doing similar.....how would people get around this? Simple, don't use protected 3rd party material unless it's "fair use" or get a license. Fair Use means digging around and coming up with your own content that exemplifies their content or your analysis of their content. (For a good example of analysis of third party content see the Daily Show's analysis of Fox News.) In the last several months Google (and I believe Apple) has tightened their copyright & trademark criteria. I expect this will be a more frequent reason for rejection than previously. Fred
