how to test an app on an iPhone?

At the risk of consolidating my reputation as a complete buzz touch numpty, can anyone explain to me how to put an app onto an iphone for testing? I have finished building the app with buzz touch, it works fine on the iOS simulator and now I want to test it out before submitting to the App Store. I have found a pdf that details how to submit to apple, but not one on how to download to an iphone for testing. I understand that I will need to enrol as an Apple Developer (?) and am in the process of doing so, but when this is complete (just waiting for the activation email) ... what then?

In short - sign up as an apple developer, get your certificates and provisioning profile - import into Xcode along with the phones S/N - away you go.
