Plugin Announcment

EDIT: Can I buy a vowel? An "e" is needed in the title! Hi Gang. This is an update to some previous messages (a few this week) about the Plugin Creating Tool, Plugin Upload and Approval Process, and Plugin Market. Plugin Developers: We are turning on some additional functionality tonight at midnight (a few hours from now). When the new functions are available, you will be able to upload your creations for approval for the Plugin Market (coming in 10 days). Please be patient during the next few hours, and the coming days, while we work out this process. This is new to ALL OF US and we are only just beginning. If you see some "funkyness" in your control panel before midnight (in the next few hours), don't worry, changes are happening literally as we speak. Things will iron out in short order - we hope! Lots can go south when you've changed a ga-zillion parts of the process :-). Our goal is to help you show off your work, earn some money, and help a large audience make some killer apps. We believe strongly that "teaming up with you" is in the best interest of us, you, app owners, and the buzztouch community overall. We look forward to seeing your work, helping you iron out some details in your new plugins, and getting your amazing creations in front of thousands of folks eager to make great apps. App Owners: Our goal is to help you create amazing, high quality apps with the least amount of experience and skill possible - this is not easy. This hasn't changed and we remain insanely focussed on innovation and iteration at an unreal pace. Did you see buzztouch 15 months ago? 24 months ago? 3 years ago? What has changed is that we are super stoked to make other developers work available for use in your buzztouch control panels for the first time. The Plugin Market will open September 1st. We hope to grow this market over time to allow you to choose from a large amount of different screen types when working with applications. Additional screen types are created by buzztouch Plugin Developers and the creativity, usefulness, and quality of their work has yet to be seen. We will begin seeing it over the coming days and have the same goals as you - lots of screens with lots of functionality. Thanks for the continued support and patience as we keep trying to evolve, grow, iterate, and focus on becoming THE way to make awesome iOS and Android apps.

Excellent stuff. I feel like a kid waiting for the toy shop to open. With all this new stuff does buzztouch plan on making bigger accounts available with more screen capacity or do we still have to go self hosted

@Mr stuck: Stay tuned on this one. We do have a solution you will LOVE that won't require self hosting. But, we can't roll out all this stuff at once. Expect some sort of "account options announcement" in coming weeks." I think you'll be stoked when you see the news :-)

this is sounding more awesome every day now. (now where's my tent, I'm camping to get the first tickets) look forward to the info on this. Its a great time to be involved in app development with buzztouch. If someone told me a few months ago that I would be building smartphone apps then I probably would have hit the floor laughing. But Buzztouch combined with this awesome forum has made this possible and is about to get a whole lot better.

Beautiful. Thanks BuzzTouch. Cant express how much I'm thankful to this community. BuzzTouch has been a dream come true to me. I'm not a programer, I've tried, but I think it's just not for me, although I do work with computer for a living, just not programing. I thought I'd never be able to develop and app, and here I am. Can wait for this new plugin market. Congratulations to you David, and all your BuzzTouch team, and to all the great BuzzTouch users, whom without most of us couldn't have done. Cheer to all from Portugal. Thanks

Looks like everyone's stoked to see some creativity - us too! Does anyone in this thread plan to upload something (a plugin) prior to September 1? I ask because we're doing what we can to get "something" In the market for opening day besides what we are all used to and already use. It's a chicken-and-egg thing. Without a market it's tough to get folks to create things on their own that they could share or sell. But, at the beginning, it will be hard to have an impressive collection of plugins from day 1. Like a new social network, hard to join if nobody else has! The plugin "uploader" functionality was turned on last night, about 10 hours ago. There is one upload to approve - mine! LOL. Let us know if you need help, assistance, opinions, whatever, we'll do what we can to help get your creation available on opening day. We're planning a new marketing campaign to try to attract some iOS and Android developers that could earn some $ embracing our system. We can't do this until we get the darned thing open. When it opens, regardless of how many plugins exist or don't exist, we'll start reaching out to devs. in a more concrete way. As you all know, up to this point it's literally been one guy making all this stuff (I wonder who that could be). This has been one of the major pain points for us. Our system is only as awesome as the number of plugin available. Getting boat-loads available should add a tremendous amount of power for app owners WITHOUT having to rely on one dude with way to many other things going on (servers with tens of millions of database records and loads of devices "calling home to them for data" are a tough to keep fast!). Taking cat-naps, watching for uploaded plugins to review, approve, or advise on. Thinking of a future when we can say "remember when" ....

@David I have two large plugins I'll be uploading prior to sep. 1st. Haha I think that might have been a rhetorical question though :D.

Awesome! Will the plugins be available for apps built under version 1.4/1.5 or restricted to the current 2.0 version?

Someone HAS to make a plugin for android (mainly) or iOS, but mainly android, that allows you to type information into it from the device, and when you come back to the app later on its still there (like a note app) or the same thing but with 10 labelled fields (5 on one side, and 5 on the other). If someone could find or make a plugin like this it would be absolutely amazing! Regards, Jawdoss :D

I need plugins that work for both Android and iOS. Is anyone working on the navigation with header? I miss it in 2.0. I hope someone is working on puzzles too. I won't likely be submitting plugins initially but will be purchasing them!

I'd sugest a section on this forum or on the buzztouch site, for plugin requests/sugestions. I think it migt help those developing them, not leaving all the burden on their side. Cheers

I like seeing some requests in this thread! My guess is we'll see 80/20 iOS/Android. I'd love to start playing with Android. I have had to force myself to NOT watch Davids Android learning path videos because I know I'll get hooked. I got thru 2 lessons and dying to learn more, just need to finish other stuff first!!!

As a relative newcomer to buzztouch and app development in general, this is great news. Being able to make apps that contain functionality similar to apps that large companies pay others thousands of dollars to create is something that should be extremely appealing to everyone.

@David @ buzztouch - Hi David, Having a problem removing plugins in the self hosted server made with the creator tool. Going through the process of deleting a plugin in the admin area doesn't delete the plugin (still there after deleting/refreshing). Plugins based on the blank_screen plugin delete ok. Currently having to delete via ftp.

If you use the plugin in an app you can't delete it. Have you used the plugin in an app? If so, delete the screen then try deleting the plugin. Fred

^ LOL raveyd "*fed up*" Is it more the java or the design area of Android that drives you crazy? Have you played with the Android Graphical Builder much yet? That actually looks less complex than the XCode IB. I'm dying to play around with it, but want to finish up some iOS stuff so we have some goods for Opening Day! I'm trying to at least get a couple of mine ready this week for review.

@ATRAIN53 everything! I'd call it 'tempermental'. Shouting at the screen often causes code to error and eclipse to crash. ...That's a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea. I see red crosses in my sleep!
