how to reducing BT_config.txt file size? is it important?

Hi :) My app has around 250 pages. The core of it around 200 pages are small custom HTML pages with a small image (the image is imbedded within the app). After reading a previous post (http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=4632A71DB3799DD73DBE573&command=isSearching&currentPage=4&topicTitle=email&createdBy=&repliedBy=&minViews=-1&maxViews=-1&minReplies=-1&maxReplies=-1&forumCategory=) David from buzztouch mentioned is it better to have a small BT_config.txt. Currently my BT_config.txt is around 450 lines long and will continue to grow to around 600. I have only location map plugin but it has around 200 pin locations. Do you think it would speed up the app significantly if I was to reduce the BT_config.txt file size? If so what is the process to do so? Thanks! Ben

Hi Ben, I would strongly advise against messing with the BT_Config.txt file. It's basically what tells your apps how to display what. If you try and eliminate whitespace or anything like that, you're likely to make a mistake and mess the whole thing up! You could reduce the SIZE of the config file by having some aspects of your app get its data from a dataURL. Many screens have that option. However...since that data would now be retrieved from the network, it'll likely slow down the performance of your app. If all the data you need is in your local copy of the config file, not only does the app not have to access the network for data, but it'll run faster because it's all local! I think you're good just leaving it alone! You won't really reduce the size of the overall app much by messing around with it. Mark

Hi Mark, Thanks for your reply! I will leave it alone. I figured the only time when running the app running a little slow is when loading a custom HTML page, but this will always be the case even if I reduce the size of the config as it depends on Internet access. I also need the page online in order to update frequently. Once again. Thanks for your help! Ben.

I think the suggestion was to move JSON data out of the Config file if it doesn't need to be there. By moving it (map positions) to a data URL it would speed up the app, but it would slow down the screen. Depends on the app to determine the trade off. App could be offline and use custom Html text screen. Fred
