QR scanner addition

Can someone possibly point me in the right direction here. I would like to firstly what the best way to add a QR scanner to an app would be? also if I do use a QR scanner in the app and someone scans a code will it open the website (I will be using it to link to a web address) in the android native browser or can it be set to open the webpage in a custom url screen.

Hi, I am export or coder, but I am trying to do the same. I have started to experiment somewhat but didn't get too far. Below are the two links that I am working off of: If you get far or it working please let me know as adding a QR reader is the last step for my App. http://damianflannery.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/integrate-zxing-barcode-scanner-into-your-android-app-natively-using-eclipse/ http://www.possumstew.com/add-zxing-barcode-scanning-natively-in-your-android-project-in-eclipse/ They are basically same steps, but one has a better walk through. Please keep advised. Thanks, Howard

@raveyd I was thinking that myself so fingers crossed. I just hope it shows the webpage in a custom url screen and not native browser though as I don't want anyone to be able to obtain the direct link. Can't wait for market to open OOOOOOO! the possibilities.

Yes, I am hoping the same. It seems like there are a few others wanting this feature in their apps.

Keep in mind that even if someone makes a plug-in scanner screen- You will still have to import the 3rd party SDK into your project as I don't think BT folks are writing SDK's. So don't completely give up on those tutorials, parts of them may still be needed to make plug-ins you purchase work! Keep hacking!

Very true ATRAIN, although in the case of xzing it's just an addition of a jar file. The link to the jar could go in the index.php, or readme or whatever and be 'sort of' contained within the plugin architecture. Having said that, it's not yet entirely clear what assets can be added to a plugin. If you have a libs directory in the plugins android folder, will it add the content to the projects libs directory? Will it know to put a jar file in the libs directory like it 'knows' where to put java and xml files? Haven't tested the limits yet.

I've added it to a bt project without it crashing, that's about it. Those guides above are both a bit out of date, the switch statements need to be changed to if-else. It's pretty much error free after doing that.

Hi Rave, So when you say you added it without it crashing does that mean you actually got it working and usable? Sorry for the stupid question. My problem was with those tutorials, I wasn't sure how to handle the addition to the manifest and the intent line command. I wasn't sure where to put that. Also how to get it functioning and working with BT? I was wondering if you did get it working successfully, you can help me with getting mine working? thanks Howard
