Opening a PDF from a URL

Hi All, I am wondering if it is possible to open a PDF from a Custom URL plugin on BT2.0 Android. Thanks, Jake

Hi @Jake Have you tried to use the HTML DOC plugin to do this?

Using the Custom URL should work, as would the PDF Screen plugin. Mark

So, when I click on the PDF from the Custom URL in the Menu List, why does Adobe Reader not come up, only ThinkFree Office comes up, and when I tap on it it crashes.

Do you know of a good PDF reader that will work with the Custom URL/Webpage Plugin?

The PDF reader isn't tied directly to the buzztouch plugin. It's simply another application that is used to read a PDF file type. So, why ThinkFree Office crashes when it opens up a PDF is related to ThinkFree, and not buzztouch. Go to Google Play and download the Adobe Reader. Makes sense to use an app from the people who do PDF for a living! Mark

I installed Adobe Reader, but it only is in the list of available apps to open when I tap on a custom PDF screen. When it has to load from a web view, the only one that is in the list is ThinkFree Office. Is there another PDF app that I could install? Can the PDF plugin get PDF's from URL's? Thanks for all the help, Jake

Hi Jake, Well, it seems as though webView calls a PDF file differently than the PDF screen. I'm not quite sure what the answer would be here...will probably take some research and experimentation. Yes, the PDF plugin can get PDFs from URLs, so that might be your solution! Mark

But as far as other PDF apps, they will probably not work...right? Should I take out all of the webViews and replace them with Custom PDF's?

I think it depends on the user's device, and how they have it configured. There's probably some way for a user to indicate which app they want to deal with PDF files...but I'm not sure how to configure that on the device (and it's probably different for different devices). I think the best way to deal with PDF files is to use the PDF screen plugin. But that's entirely up to you. I've not had any issues with the screen (provided the user has the appropriate helper app installed). The good news is that it just works for iOS...nothing extra to do! Mark
