Idea help on getting users to help develop app content

Dear BT user I have been away for what feels like an eternity, apart from working for a boss that makes the uk or USA Office tv programme boss look like a philanthropic mentor, I have been working on a children's book in the few hours that he unshackled me. I would like to say I have been working a rock opera, or gone away and learnt Latin dancings in miami's south beech, or joined Hemingway fishing for swordfish off key west, but oh no I have been working on the unglamorous task of inspiring children's minds with a book. I have finished this Magnus opus and children surprisingly like it so far, one laughing so hard milk went through his nose and hit me like a Yosemite geyser. What I would love to do as well as get it published is to do an app where the children can upload and share there images of the main characters, do spin of stories, do a bit of a competition etc. I would love any ideas or the best way to implement this social side and any websites for childrens nasal plugs. Thank you mark (007) when I fall asleep

Love your post! There are ways to make your app more social.. things like Scringo might be useful (do a search in the forum, many guides/posts about it). The eBook plugin would be extremely useful for you, currently works for android only. But there are eBook html solutions out there, lots of them. Will come back later and contribute more... falling asleep myself and just wanted to post here real fast. Cheers Mark. David buzztouchmods.com

Thanks MrDavid, great advice and I looked at scringo - looks great, also lovely to see your new forum pic, the last one had you happy but solo, this one has you embracing a beautiful woman and looking even happier, the circular of life is a beautiful thing. ST726 thanks for the post - I hope I can pic ur brains at a later point on doing a cool promo video to make me look semi professional. The forum is always strengthened with your presence. I am hoping that my app becomes a hybrid between a ebook and a scrap book with the kids uploading there pics and stories so that it's volume is developed by the user base. I also want a voting system so that the best pics or new stories get per mentally added to app. Any ideas on this will be gratefully received. My one worry is that as aimed at children market an attached module like scringo takes a little control away if bad language or inappropriate pictures.

@Marko: Whoo hoo, welcome back! What's wrong with kids app called "Poet Magnus" (from your remark). a) Child selects his / her favorite character's image. "This is my favorite character." b) Child presses a record button and has exactly :15 seconds to record something that the character is "saying." The first child to do this would be "starting" a story. The next child and so on and so on would each have :15 seconds to "build upon the story" that the previous child started / contributed to. When the story gets to :90 seconds long (6 kids), it's completed and everyone can listen to it. c) Each character in the book would eventually be "telling" lots and lots of :90 second stories that were created by the audience. Kids vote, like, share their favorites. d) You sell it for .99 or give it away with the book. e) You get rich, retire, and write more books. My two cents :-)

@Marko, welcome back. Building upon David's post. Have a format (with six parts) the kids will pick. Gives then a bit of structure. 1. Intro - It was a dark & stormy night 2. Setup - The knight came from the dark continent with lots thunderstorms 3. Buildup - The knight was going to the county fair for a tournament 4. Twist - The knight was eating a banana 5. Re-twist - The white knight slipped on the banana peel 6. Conclusion - Dark and stormy knight should eat more bananas So, I thought I'd Google "six part story" Thought I went astray when I found: The Six-part Story Method (6PSM) is a projective tool in wide use by dramatherapists in the UK, USA and Israel (Lahad & Ayalon, 1993). In contrast to projective tests used by psychotherapists and psychologists, the 6PSM has never been the subject of any validation or reliability studies. This study reports on the identification of scale items to describe the manifest content of six-part stories. In all, 26 statements with acceptable inter-rater reliability have been identified. These statements were used to rate stories produced by clinicians (N = 24) mainstream community mental health patients (N = 21) and patients with a borderline personality disorder (N = 19). Some features that were expected to be indicators of an author with a BPD diagnosis proved to be as common in stories from other authors. However, a scale of eight items was identified that differentiated well between authors with a BPD diagnosis and others, with adequate test —retest and inter-rater reliability. Concurrent validity was tested against the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II (SCID-II), the Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation Outcome Measure (CORE-OM) and the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems—Short Form (IIP-32). But, another thread seemed promising: 1) Exposition: a fancy word for the beginning of the story- where the author "sets the stage"- in this part, the situation of the characters in the story is explained and it leads up to the further development of the plot- the point of view and the setting (the where and the when) is also explained 2) Rising Action: the series of action, or complications, that sets up the conflict for the main character of the story- in this part of the story tension builds, and the story works its way up to the climax 3) Climax: the high point in the story - the turning point where the conflict comes to a head and is decided for one side or the other- usually the most exciting point in the story 4) Falling Action: events that happen after the climax - usually wrap up the story and lead to the conclusion- sometimes the falling action is almost non-existent because the conclusion occurs immediately after the climax 5) Resolution: the point of closure- also called the conclusion or denoument- when the conflict is worked out- the end So, there you have it a 75 second story. Fred

I need to do this response in two parts; firstly David, your 2 cents are invaluable love the idea of audio and the personalisation of choices by selecting this is my favourite. To be back on buzztouch is like returning back to your home/school. the decor has improved, the facilities are so much better for the new kids but you always feel like your welcome here. My work means I have to do a lot of traveling and the dodgy hotels with lack of wifi makes me yearn to be back home learning why code signing is a dark art. I am re-educating myself via BTU and it so good to be back even if my attendance at first will be spasmodic. David I know you here it a lot of time but thanks for buzztouch. Secondly dearest Fred, your bear has got no older but looks even cheekier. thanks for your very astute guidance and I will be rereading a lot of your great files on android as a lot of children will have them unless they live in Beverly hills or are related to the jobs family. First thing I did when back on Bt was to check out the forum and see if you and Gonorthwest, Macapple, St726, strobe, mrdavid, ianjamespiano, etc were still there. It is brilliant to have the a team of the forum present. when it comes to apple you still are like BA not keen on flying, this makes me smile. My apologies for the delayed response, I have just got back home and to a solid wifi.

@Marko: Yeah but I'm a bit bummed that my idea wasn't entirely original! Laughing. When I wrote it it was, I literally just thought about it. Then, @Fred went and found the six-part-story history (that I didn't know existed) and I soooo laughed., makes perfect sense. @Fred, interesting stuff there. Funny how so many times each of us thinks our ideas are new, and fresh, and interesting to then later learn that somebody else was thinking the exact same thing. And so it goes as a "creative" - very few ideas are truly new. Go make something cool.

Oh man, looks like everyone's got everything covered! Even if the idea's are not fresh (really these days every idea is built from already existing ideas, it can be argued that originality is hard to come by if at all ;p) Even angry birds was based from something! Make it YOURS. We'll help, keep us updated on your project :) Thanks for the comments. Cheers. David buzztouchmods.com

Firstly thanks for the lovely comments, and David it is fantastic to see your app concept grow and mature, and big appreciation for the way you have done it in small evolutionary steps so those of us in the small gene pool don't feel left out. Secondly to keep people informed, the core story I have done has just been read by a few published authors who have had published works. Got great feedback and review, I was worried that although I think I have a good story that my writing skills would correlate with my speeling( truly awful). They informed that on average a published book gives very small return on average, so app idea with ebook core would be a great idea. I could title my book 50 shades of play but I think that may get me kicked out of the children's section, or get many middle aged bored people very unhappy to find that the main character is a pocket sized dragon rather than a controlling adult. in regards to original ideas I have this one about a website where you can build apps and develop plugins, oh wait someone's al..............
